Built in 1543, the castle occupies the central part of Toyama city, serving as a popular spot for locals to relax. The four-story majestic castle building, surrounded by a moat, also houses Toyama Folk Museum. Stop for a rest by the water and admire the castle from across the moat. Located by the Matsue River, you can also take a 30-minute boat tour to see the castle from on the water. You can walk to the castle from Toyaka railway station in 10 minutes.   • The night views were beautiful. It has a little park by its side. One of the smaller castles which one can zip through in 30min.  more »
  • Visited the Park in late April to see the 2,500 cherry blossom trees in bloom. It was very spectacular with a snow covered mountain as a backdrop. Local train was extremely crowded to get to Hirosaki ...  more »
  • Relaxing place to visit, enjoyed in the garden surrounded. Advice to go in the morning, when not so crowded in the park  more »

  • Small scale castle....I would say... if you compare it with other big name castles. But the surrounding park is nice and good for walking.
  • Not much to see. The park is wide but not so moving. There's far better in Toyama, like for example the mizukinenkouen in Inami.
