Togenukijizo Kogan Temple, Toshima
(2.7/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
According to the local beliefs at Togenukijizo Kogan Temple, you can protect yourself against diseases and lengthen your life by pouring water from a bamboo ladle over a bodhisattva statue, then wiping it with a towel. Set in the midst of the busy and colorful Sugamo shopping district, the Zen temple of the Soto sect abounds with statues of Togenuki jizo, “a thorn-extracting deity.” Many locals, notably senior women, visit the temple as part of their shopping routine, hoping to spot some local celebrities as they go. Watch monks beating drums, then browse through local shops offering curiosities including red socks and underwear, which can be used in rituals to keep your body's energy flowing efficiently. Using our online itinerary creator, Tokyo attractions like Togenukijizo Kogan Temple can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • It was crowded because it was the day of the Festival, such as Disneyland. Just who was called the happy new year image was crowded with lots of visitors young and old. Seeking to heal the disease of mikage, was satisfied.

  • The temples in Japan are a site to behold and it is nice to see that they are looked after and very symbolic to the people of Japan
  • Speaking of sugamo, always passionate togenuki jizo. Offertory, incense, where there is another space you'll brush the jizo body. Said I'll brush where according to the legend owes to your illness or injury, and good company. Please try again.
