Sunshine 60, Toshima

3.7
#76 of 859 in Sightseeing in Tokyo
Observation Deck Tourist Spot
Enjoy a 360-degree panorama of Tokyo at Sunshine 60, a 60-story, multi-purpose skyscraper, and a symbol of Ikebukuro Sunshine City shopping center. Standing 240 m (786 ft) tall, this building was once the tallest building in Asia when it opened in 1978. You can take a swift shiny elevator all the way to the top in 38 seconds, or you can enjoy browsing through this building, which was designed as a mall. Visit Mega Tokyo Pokemon Centre, Studio Ghibli outlets, or the Disney store before enjoying some crepes on the way to the top of the building, which stays open until 9 pm. Use our Tokyo family vacation planner to add Sunshine 60 and other attractions to your Tokyo vacation plans.

  • We kept as a possibility for a very rainy day and indeed there was one where there was a really intemperio and with kids being around was unthinkable so having the JR Yamanote Line at 200 meters from home and only a few stops away IKebukuro stayed here and we spent most of the day. It's immense and there is pretty much everything from the Aquarium, at two parks on j-world tokyo dedicated to the world of comics "jump" and you'll find several attractions and inside Namjatown where the Nanja Gyoza Stadium dedicated to Chinese dumplings and the fukubukuro dessert Yokocho. Piano dedicated only to food, an area dedicated to the little ones where it's all about rubber with colored shapes to play with, a huge store for lovers of Pokemon, a central fountain that afternoon off housed a concert and nice stores.

  • Big and full of shops (Mega Pokémon Center, Moe Garden (Studio Ghibli), Namja Town, J-World, Toys'R'Us and Disney). It hosts concerts and events
  • Crazy amounts of shopping to be done here, but a must see for anime fans. Especially Dragon Ball Z and Naruto
  • fantastic shopping and eateries. Tokyo is probably the best cities in the world.
  • Huge place with great stores both outside and inside. This is a two whole day kinda place. A must.
  • In hot summer days, a perfect getaway for families with children.

Where to stay in Tokyo

Tokyo abounds with excellent places to stay, from luxury affairs to humble budget-friendly lodgings. Its glittering skyscrapers house numerous international four- and five-star hotels, both in the populous cultural hotspots of Shinjuku and in the business centers of Akasaka and Shinbashi. Meanwhile, hostels catering to the shoestring traveler lie scattered throughout the city. For a memorable, distinctly Japanese experience, seek out a ryokan, a traditional bed and breakfast with tatami floor mats and sliding screen doors.
