Former Japanese Navy Underground Headquarters, Tomigusuku

(4.5/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Visitors to Former Japanese Navy Underground Headquarters will find many sad, poignant reminders of the terrible loss of life that took place here in Okinawa, and of the painful legacy of war. The naval base was established in 1944 using pickaxes and hoes, and was 450 m (1,476.3 ft) in length. In the post-war years, the site was left untouched until it was re-opened in 1970, after being renovated. At that time, the remains of around 2,400 people were recovered. Traverse the tunnels observing relics and artifacts, including a telegram from the forces' final commander Rear Admiral Minoru Ota, sent just days before he and 175 of his men committed "seppuku," a form of ritual suicide. Stories like this echo throughout the tight corridors, officer's rooms, code rooms, and staff room. • You can know some relationship between Okinawa Prefecture and Japan military museum to check properly before entering the bunker. So I visited abroad several times as well as hideouts to this spacious, room is neatly divided into slides. Very good state of preservation. Surprised at the high ceiling of the corridor. Grenade scars where the self-determination to see just hurts my heart. You should have seen once. It is good to bring my college daughter.

  • Parking lot is dotted with the obvious, and observation deck at the top, overlooking the city. Then in the visitor centre the museums with. In the basement of the Visitor Center entrance to the Museum and bunkers, Office. Entrance to the bunker was long staircase, like it is drawn into the underground sensation. The scars of war, such as Commander's room, war room, generator room was left on the shelter. Is a place to think about peace

  • And remain there during the war, "had received first-aid at a place like this?", standing, lying or committed suicide by a hand grenade or the photos exhibited as an indescribable feeling. I thought that spot should try once.
