  • This is a municipal science museum located in the Matsunoyama district of Tokamachi City, in the mountainous area of Chuetsu, Niigata Prefecture. As the name of the forest school, the nature of Satoyama is the main contents of the exhibition. Especially the exhibits of small creatures such as insects are interesting. The building is also quite interesting in its unique form of red rust color. It takes about 20 minutes by car from the nearest Hokuhoku line Matsudai station. There is also a beautiful forest in the immediate vicinity, so let's go here.

  • I stopped by during the art festival of the Earth. Special exhibition "fantasies / experiences! Woodlands of micro and macro of Lab "of the exhibition. Best lab weight it's cardboard sculpture is one of the very rich in the good. Photographing all was wanted. Also, I eat reptiles is great fun for the kids and was enough. It is honestly imagine just climb off the Observatory elsewhere than the dark staircase is very tight, so climb also was good I wonder if it is.

  • This is a really good place to take kids. The building itself is part of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Field project. You can climb the tall tower and get a good view from the big windows at the top. It's a 160 step staircase though and is hardly lit as it is also one of the art projects. The inside of the center is full of interesting items related to the local nature and countryside. There are snakes, frogs and fish close by and you can fish for crayfish in small ponds. There are stuffed examples of the local bird-life and an amazing collection of butterflies. The windows are made of a really think material and in winter you can see the deep snow piling up against it. There is a visual representation of the snowfall over the past decade or so which is very interesting. There is also a restaurant and a craft area where you can try your hand a making different objects out of objects scavenged from the nearby woods and fields. Perhaps our favorite thing were over 100 little drawers containing all sorts of different things related to the local environment - snake skins, bird nests, insects.
  • I went to the Triennale 2018. Because it is a person who is weak in the insect, the exhibition thing of the pavilion was considerably painful. The Observatory? There is a car parked there and parked there, even if you look down from the high where you can look down from a higher place to climb the dark stairs, I did not know well what you want to show.

  • The Museum of Tokamachi City. It is one of the bases of Echigo-Tsumari art Triennale. It is an exhibition of the biology Center about nature. There is also a plan to help the free study of the summer vacation. It goes up to the observatory on foot. Because the inside is dark, the small child might be scared, and be careful of trite the stairs. At the time of the Triennale, there are many works displayed in the museum. I have never visited any other time, so I am not sure. I think that it is also good to enjoy the stroll of the beech Forest of the next beautiful forest.

  • It was my first visit to the art Festival of the Earth. The first thing that surprised me was the structure of the building. The weather-resistant steel plate is made to rust the surface so as not to erode. It is also exciting to form like a fortress somewhere. I was able to touch the frog, the insect, and the beetle in the inside and recalled infancy. In the neighboring Satoyama kitchen, I was satisfied because I was able to eat the curry rice and perilla juice with plenty of vegetables in Tokamachi.

  • During the period of the Earth's Art festival, you will be presented with your passport for free. Normal rate: 500 yen for adults, 300 yen for junior high school students. This time, because it was summer, there was a child in the special Beetle corner. There are countless free-range beetles in the room dedicated to beetles. It may look fresh to children who have never seen beetles in a cage. I also climbed the usual observatory. Because my feet are dark, I can see the step more easily. I am glad that I can enjoy it while I hang an object of the insect which shines in the air, and show it fantastically while climbing.
