Sanrio Puroland, Tama

(3.4/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Treat the kids with a visit to Sanrio Puroland, a theme park showcasing some of the country's most popular children's characters, including Hello Kitty. Opened in 1990, the theme park entertains younger children, with the whole indoor facility decked out in a colorful (primarily pink) cartoon theme, and with costumed characters around every corner. Take a tour of Kitty's house to meet her family, and let the kids take a trip on one of the gentle rides. Three live performance stages host immersive plays with plenty of audience interaction. Work out when and for how long to visit Sanrio Puroland and other Tama attractions using our handy Tama tourist route planner.

  • It's quite small but packed with lovely things, fun designs, and interesting attractions. You can relax in here unlike other themed parks where you need to walk and walk to get to the other side of th...  more »
  • Perfect Midwinter cold. Free winter is recommended. Food cannot be expected. Merchandise is sold abundantly. You can enjoy the rides and shows more than expected. Kitira may even take is money. Don't do shopping in the Park does not sell any merchandise and step outside. It might be taking a bath in there because there's bathing facilities next door if you are tired, rest. Easy walk from the station. Would recommend taking a bus or train. Summer is crowded. And foreigners are also surprisingly large.

  • I came here with such low expectations that it's going to be a huge disappointment. And yes, that's how wrong I've been. The thing is, in this place you'd be greeted with so many superb broadway performances, where every single cast literally goes beyond their limit in every scene. In fact, I even got a bit teary-eyed with their brilliant performances. Never let the name "Sanrio Puroland" fools you. Well, I admit that most of the rides aren't that fun for adults. However, the shows are truly and brilliantly spectacular.
  • Staff are helpful and friendly. The live show was fantastic. If you are friends of Hello Kitty and friends, you will enjoy every moment.
  • Con: The entrance fee, food and pictures with Kitty are expensive. Pro: The attractions are adorable. The shows are elaborate and well produced. The food is tasty. And the decorations/styling is so good it almost surpasses Disney. The surrounding Tama Center is also a nice place to walk around, eat, shop and see the calmer side of greater Tokyo.
  • If you love to be surrounded by happy and cute things, Sanrio Puroland is for you! Japanese is the only known language here though. And its markets are Sanrio character fans, young children and adults who are kids at heart. Its rides are mostly for young children: (1) boat ride that goes through a cave filled with singing and dancing Sanrio characters, (2) tour at Hello Kitty's house that includes a meet-and-greet Hello Kitty at the last room in the house, (3) play that is only in Japanese, and a (4) colorful and character-filled parade.
  • The place is mostly for small children but don't let that stop you from going! All the things there are extremely adorable and the experience is totally worth. Not even close to the size of Disneyland but definitely matches in quality and decor.
