  • The market has lost its soul. All articles are directed at tourists. Authenticity is absent. I want to proof the shops that line the market close the afternoon when the market closes him also

  • Much praised in travel guides only 10 stalls mostly more expensive tourist stuff, little fruit/vegetables but at least in April. Something pickled specialties, but not understandable, because only in Japanese. Slightly better the second morning market. Plan extra time for it, definitely not. Takayama total is sufficient for half a day and half day trip to Shirakawago (farming village: 2 x 1 hour bus ride and 2 hours stay).

  • Quaint market good for local produce and miso goods. Some souvenir shops and opportunities to taste Hida beef snaxks. Not as expansive or crowded as the Nishiki market which has more variety
  • One of the best parts of visiting Takayama is seeing the morning market along the river bank. Just take note that it completely empties out by around noon, so stopping by in the afternoon will offer nothing to see. On a sunny day, the atmosphere in the morning is incredible - there are a variety of different shops, ranging from produce to handcraft goods to snacks/drinks.
  • Very beautiful market in the morning so get up early enough. You will be able to try a lot of local products from vegetables to alcohol. You may also find gifts like chopsticks (amazing ones which you may engrave).
  • It's like a farmer's market. Support old grandmas that plant all the fruits and vegetables at their back yard. Great place to buy some apples, you can see the different type of apples grown. I am very surprise with the super sized cabbages, carrots & leeks. Was also lucky to be there on their annual 24th Day Fair! Tons of food and super lively! Check out the photos i marked 24th Day Fair.
  • great place, location is so good beside the river. It's a bigger than the another one
