Takaoka Daibutsu Buddha, Takaoka
(1.9/5 based on 190+ reviews on the web)
Counted among the most iconic Buddha statues in Japan, Takaoka Daibutsu Buddha stands almost 16 m (52 ft) tall and dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. At the nearby shrine, you can see the wooden head of a much older Buddha sculpture, which stood there for centuries before burning down in a great fire. Located near the center of town, the current bronze statue makes an ideal backdrop for a few quick photographs. • It is compared to the Nara and Kamakura, and Takaoka from quite different, I think. Shows good presence in the sense of scale in the city as a symbol of the city used in the Takaoka. Is a kind of volunteer, "Please see the Buddha from this location. You're gentle your face... "and will tell you the highlight points. Really thought it.

  • This Daibutsu sits in the middle of town. Not as grandeur as the other two Great Buddahas. Why? Because it was built by the local people of Takaoka. The Nara Daibutsu was built by the Emperor. The Kam...  more »
  • The great Buddha was all a surprise, simply walking through the city managed to see this great image in the distance. Arriving the place is full of Japanese as nice and pleasant that invite you to learn more about their culture and beliefs. You can enter, you must before passing by a source with smoke, I think that it is similar to incense, where you cures ills. After this ritual you can already enter and is beautiful, very own Asian design, there is a giant campaign and there is Japanese typical ambient music. Leaving stores of attended reuerdos by own monks and also there is a chapel with images of buddha and other gods, where you can appreciate the respectful prayer and dance of their visitors.
