Tamamo Park, Takamatsu
(3.6/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
Take a step back into the past and visit the remains of an early 17th-century castle as you take a peaceful stroll through Tamamo Park. As you walk through the former castle grounds, take in views of surrounding trees, old stone walls, and the nearby sea. Continue to walk around the park and you will come across a 100-year-old Hiunkaku house, which features a traditional Japanese interior complete with paper doors. The highlight of the park is the restored castle, with a history dating back to the Edo period. One of Japan’s only castles, it features a moat that connects to the ocean. Walk around the Park and in early Meiji period Japan houses like theatrical events there were, ruins of a castle and we would "? "And the Castle thought we would see the old homestead of taste which made it fun.

  • Not the best park in Takamatsu. If you wanted to see the castle, you could see it and photograph it outside. Inside is small and boring. I would not recommend it as a must-see place in town.
  • We had some time to kill while waiting for our flight, so took a stroll through this peaceful, extensive garden/park. There was a Chrysanthemum festival on at the time and the displays were incredible...  more »

  • This is not a typical castle like in Osaka, Nagoya, Himeji or so. This is more like a park. It's located about 5 minutes from JR Takamatsu station and at local train station. The entrance fee was 200JPY (as of today), but it seems that it's voluntary.
  • Tamamo Garden suffers from two things: - Comparison with nearby Ritsurin Garden. - The fact that people usually expect to find a castle there when they visit, and leave disappointed as most of the castle is long gone. The thing is that Tamamo Garden is a very different kind of garden than Ritsurin is. It's main interest is historical and not aesthetic. And while you won't find what people usually call a Japanese castle (i.e. the main tower of said castle), there is plenty of interesting things to find there: - The saltwater moat, a very rare thing. - The tsukimi tower, which dates from the 17th Century. - The main building (open to the public only a few days a year and on special events). In other words don't dismiss it because you didn't have the right expectations about it.
  • I think this place is good in night Unfortunately i didn't.
  • On Sunday you can visit the TSUKIMI-Yagura and corridor inside. I will be open also gomon has been closed.

  • Is maintained as a park. You can see the valuable materials in the Museum.
