Bitchu Matsuyama Castle, Takahashi
(4.4/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Look through the mists of time at Bitchu Matsuyama Castle. Perched high on a steep mountain, this is the oldest and highest surviving castle in the country, and one of only 12 mountain-top fortifications to have survived the post-feudal age. Consider a morning visit, when the castle seems to sit magically upon an ocean of clouds that stretch across the valley. You'll need to hike about 20 minutes from the end of the road to the top, or about an hour from the station, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring along plenty of water. Our Takahashi trip builder makes visiting Bitchu Matsuyama Castle and other Takahashi attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Castle in the sky! Existing castles! That we have. Sea of clouds fit was very nice! Observatory I climb out of the car. Cars and people very often. Is smaller than the castle itself, on the rock of the stone wall and watch the fun. Note that the short walk up the mountain. Autumn leaves were beautiful.

  • It is a castle in the mountains north of the town of bicchu. Castle is located in the extant among the highest anywhere. From the bus stop is a little climb so a little hard, buildings such as the Castle and city walls is fine and nice vantage point.

  • I went with an old mother. Went to normal mountain trails, but still mother was hard like that be climbed in about 25 minutes. Climb on the road here mother passed the road passed down another road in the signpost (except for climbing the road back was that emergency road) on the way back, first down steep stairs to the dozens of cars pass, but wanted to say. Went to emergency road and trail, but I also think for the elderly. Only the castle was rebuilt in timber outdated and very helpful.

  • Small mountain top castle with a great view. It's a bit of effort to get up to it but i'd recommend it as the castle itself has been restored beautifully and the views across the country side are great.
  • One of the few original castles of Japan and this one has spectacular views over the town from it. You will need to take a cab to get here from the train station as it is quite far.
  • It's a very small castle (feels more like a house on the inside) but it's also Japan's oldest, and is located on top of a forested mountain rather than the middle of a city.
  • Sky Castle boom so far engaged in earlier. It's climb, and then enjoy great kitsui. By all means stop by.

  • A complete fortress. Fifth went by car, shuttle to hachigōme. Travellers and look up in the walk from the parking lot two hours said. Using the shuttle bus at the time. Round trip 300 yen. (Free for children) adults 300 yen needed to go to the Castle area. Note car parking is free of charge. From hachigōme arrive at the Summit in about 20 minutes. Rock on the stone wall restoration.
