Bitchu Matsuyama Castle, Takahashi

(4.5/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
Look through the mists of time at Bitchu Matsuyama Castle. Perched high on a steep mountain, this is the oldest and highest surviving castle in the country, and one of only 12 mountain-top fortifications to have survived the post-feudal age. Consider a morning visit, when the castle seems to sit magically upon an ocean of clouds that stretch across the valley. You'll need to hike about 20 minutes from the end of the road to the top, or about an hour from the station, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring along plenty of water. Our Takahashi trip builder makes visiting Bitchu Matsuyama Castle and other Takahashi attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Because it was accompanied by dogs have a shared taxi from bitchū-Takahashi station, but in general taxi went up to 8th (cost 1,500 yen). Walking from 8th climb on foot as well. You'd better quit the high-heeled shoes. Ideal for lunch while watching the Castle from stone walls appear one after the other because rising tension and arrived at the Plaza of the ninomaru tables and benches so. Here is built on a natural rock, was impressive. I think it is worth, one of only 12 remaining extant Castle, and no facilities to another castle, visit. Downhill trail arrived at the city in about 30 minutes. From 小松山 if normally low mountain hikes and have both up and down in the legs, there is a castle in addition to route to the greater Matsuyama, happily, is recommended.

  • Great hike and the castle is cool. It was nice to go in and not many tourists at all. I would go just for the hike and to do something outside of the tourist traps.  more »
  • Is that the fortress is the highest in Japan. Share taxi from JR bitchū-Takahashi station Takahashi Tourism Association is taking the bigwigs did. You can reach by car bellows pass that last point. Car is a little bit far away, on the shuttle is like bellows pass. Walking trails in the ruins of a castle and the Castle Tower is located just 20 minutes. Promenade is a pretty spicy Hill on the mountain road. I'd like a bamboo cane is at the entrance of the promenade since borrowed more. Is a two-story, Tower is not very big. Stairs are steep and a bit scary. Not exhibit in the building itself. Stone walls and piled up high, like Machu Picchu. In the opening of the drama "Sanada-Maru" is used.

  • Small mountain top castle with a great view. It's a bit of effort to get up to it but i'd recommend it as the castle itself has been restored beautifully and the views across the country side are great.
  • One of the few original castles of Japan and this one has spectacular views over the town from it. You will need to take a cab to get here from the train station as it is quite far.
  • It's a very small castle (feels more like a house on the inside) but it's also Japan's oldest, and is located on top of a forested mountain rather than the middle of a city.
  • Sky Castle boom so far engaged in earlier. It's climb, and then enjoy great kitsui. By all means stop by.

  • A complete fortress. Fifth went by car, shuttle to hachigōme. Travellers and look up in the walk from the parking lot two hours said. Using the shuttle bus at the time. Round trip 300 yen. (Free for children) adults 300 yen needed to go to the Castle area. Note car parking is free of charge. From hachigōme arrive at the Summit in about 20 minutes. Rock on the stone wall restoration.
