Amanoiwato Shrine, Takachiho-cho

4.4
#2 of 6 in Historic Sites in Nishiusuki-gun
Dedicated to the sun goddess, Amanoiwato Shrine was built near the cave where she was believed to have hidden from her pursuers, creating a blackout in the world. Some 10 km (6 mi) from downtown Takachino, the shrine sits on the Iwato River. Believed to have originated in the ninth century, the shrine marks the starting point for a hike to the cave of the sun goddess, whose legend presumably came about thanks to a solar eclipse. After you perform a cleansing ritual, you may proceed to the cave. You can take a guided tour with one of the priests accompanying you, but you won't be allowed to take photos. • Or will I just get stared at the surface of the River, this river runs from the era when I was feeling. Seems like being sucked into the flow of the mighty river and Green River. Feel the power of the gods. Natural trees and foliage this season, is a very pretty sight.

  • The 13:00 jam near the shrine. Something festive and from the weekend and listen to local people. And goes before the 18:00 was near it was now dark, also opposite the co-op 18:00 closed. I want to go during the day turned back at the entrance, but if the opportunity arises. What for?!

Where to stay in Takachiho-cho

Where the mountain roads all convene at Honmachi, the main accommodations of Takachiho-cho can be found. As with other important locations in Japanese mythology and spirituality, Takachiho-cho possesses a good mix of simple guesthouses for pilgrims and backpackers, as well as some upmarket options, including luxury hotels and traditional guesthouses with limited numbers of rooms and quintessentially Japanese decorations throughout. Follow each of the main roads out of town, and you'll find similar options in more isolated locations.
