  • This stunning district is a must to see, and a local guide is very much recommended. The unusual combination of housing, temples, and cemeteries captivates the mind. The cemeteries are small, because,...  more »
  • In contrast to the bustling and technological modern Tokyo, Yanaka offers the unique and lovely opportunity of delving into the history. (there converge architecture and traditions of the Edo, Meiji and Showa periods) Introduced by its beautiful staircase "Yuyake dandan", (high place from which to watch the sunset) is sighted the mercadito appeal of crafts invites you to continue the journey through the narrow streets where you can see: the cemetery, more than 60 temples Buddhists and shinto coming out to meet the traveler there where least expected them; walking through Yanaka is a delight. To not to be missed! The wonderful Museum of the sculptor Asakura Fumio (the Museum consists of two spaces: what were the atelier and residence of the sculptor, both can be visited and are adorable, with favorable climate, you can access to a roof in which the sculptor knew how to install a garden.) In the garden, you can see reproductions of sculptures by Rodin, in whom Asakura Fumio Center his sculptural studies. Other picturesque and pleasant place is the annex of the Shitamachi Museum used to be a shop dedicated to the sale of sake and currently displaying all items related to the production and sale of traditional Japanese beverage. Boundary to the Ueno Park, Yanaka exit and enter the Park (previously through music and art universities) is a wonderful way to explore this facet of the beautiful Tokyo

Where to stay in Tokyo

Tokyo abounds with excellent places to stay, from luxury affairs to humble budget-friendly lodgings. Its glittering skyscrapers house numerous international four- and five-star hotels, both in the populous cultural hotspots of Shinjuku and in the business centers of Akasaka and Shinbashi. Meanwhile, hostels catering to the shoestring traveler lie scattered throughout the city. For a memorable, distinctly Japanese experience, seek out a ryokan, a traditional bed and breakfast with tatami floor mats and sliding screen doors.
