Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Taito
(3.8/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Admire an array of art exhibits at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, a cultural institution located within a wider public park. Originally opened in 1926, the facility underwent major changes in 1975 and 2010, creating a contemporary space that appeals inside and out. The six galleries host exhibits on a range of international art scenes and artists; each space serves only for temporary shows, as the museum does not have a permanent collection. Head back into the European Renaissance, get to know contemporary Japanese artists, or admire folk art from across the globe at this ever-changing venue. Check the website to see what's on currently. • We visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Art and enjoy the Citizens Galleries where Japanese classic and modern artworks are exhibited.

  • Seriously, quite small, at least in comparison with the National Museum in the Park a little farther. BUT if you like museums-modern art, go if you stroll in Ueno.

  • One of the dullest art museums I've been to. Only free exhibition during my visit was The Calligraphy which was plain boring too. People are quiet and whispering, like they are in a spiritual place. Also bad air ventilation and dull interior.
  • This gallery frequently has exhibits of very significant important art collections. I've seen Warhol, Lichtenstein, Van Gogh, and Niki De San Phalle so far. Tokyo is a great city for art, and this is one of the best galleries around.
  • Nice museum which has a lot of brochures containing information on art exhibitions. There's also an umbrella rack with locks at the entrance in case of rainy days. On Saturdays, the poor queue up at 11:00 nearby in threes to receive food which is distributed at 13:00.
  • Very nice museum to visit, but know when to go ^_^ Do your research on the Internet before going, ensure they have a nice attraction in which you will be interested in viewing. When I last visited they had the Ancient Egyptian display, very nice 😀
  • Nice museum showing famous artists' work
