  • Really great urban renewal space with fantastic handmade craft and artist work. Wish I had more time and had bought more.  more »
  • Great place to find unique gifts and souvenirs, made by Japanese artists and crafts professionals. It is hidden away, below the railway tracks! Great to spend a few hours here, as all the shop keepers...  more »
  • It is a collection of specialty shops between Akihabara and okachimachi station, located under the overpass. Fashion from a myriad of specialized shops, Café has a wide range of shops. The atmosphere is very calm, was one who came in slowly, turning often.

  • Close by akihabara Station. It has very cold shops and some nice cafés. Although prices are quite high here.
  • Small market sporting a wide variety of locally made products, ranging from clothes to wooden utensils. Also, neat small coffee shop. Definitely worth a visit for people with an interest into seeing a more hipster side of Tokyo. (Also, there are toilets with a waste basket. That may seem like small details, but if you are a tourist, chances are you've been looking for both for the last hour and a half.)
  • Officially known as "2k540 Aki-Oka Artisan," this is a complex of galleries, boutiques and workshops for artisans of both traditional and modern crafts. Lined up under the JR railroad tracks are some two dozen shops selling (and often making on-premises) leather goods and jewelry, hats and umbrellas, wooden crafts, ceramics, fabrics and toys.
  • Cute and quiet little area under the train line with artisan boutiques lining the street. Great place to explore. Akihabara's hidden gem. Not busy with tourists, more of a place for locals.
  • A favourite of tourists and locals alike. One-of-a-kind traditional souvenirs can be be found in these quaint boutiques.

Where to stay in Tokyo

Tokyo abounds with excellent places to stay, from luxury affairs to humble budget-friendly lodgings. Its glittering skyscrapers house numerous international four- and five-star hotels, both in the populous cultural hotspots of Shinjuku and in the business centers of Akasaka and Shinbashi. Meanwhile, hostels catering to the shoestring traveler lie scattered throughout the city. For a memorable, distinctly Japanese experience, seek out a ryokan, a traditional bed and breakfast with tatami floor mats and sliding screen doors.
