Part of the Shrines and Temples of Nikko UNESCO World Heritage Site, the temple consists of a dozen buildings including a restored, five-story, 17th-century pagoda, as well as the tomb of Leyasu, founder of Japan’s first shogunate. Buildings feature vibrantly colored decorations as well as an abundance of carvings, including that of three wise monkeys who see, hear, and speak no evil.   • This shrine is located in a corner of Ueno Park, and comprises one main building, relatively small but ornately decorated. For a small fee you can wander around the exterior of the building, within it...  more »
