Cape Irago, Tahara

Lighthouse Landmark
Considered one of the top 50 lighthouses in the country, the snow-white beacon at Cape Irago stands vigil on a dramatic point, looking out over the Pacific Ocean. Built in 1926, the lighthouse's stark white architecture contrasts with the deep blue of the sea, giving way to great views of land across the water. From here, explore either the sheltered sandy beaches on the north side of the peninsula, known for their good swimming, or the wilder Pacific south side, furnished with dunes and attracting surfers. Look out for the "lover's sanctuary," a spot overlooking the sea where lovers write notes on padlocks and seal them to bring their relationships good fortune.
