Where to stay in Shodoshima-cho

Like most island destinations, the town of Shodoshima-cho has a number of resorts and hotels to choose from in the city center and by the seaside. However, you'll also find a few affordable guesthouses as an alternative to the luxurious options. For young backpackers or others traveling on a budget, consider staying at a youth hostel among the olive groves. Be sure to reserve your room in advance during peak season, which consists of the summer months, as well as October and November, when the leaves change color. At other times the island remains very quiet, making it easier to find accommodations.

  • Follow and arrive at the parking lot for a few minutes with it's thin, narrow road that passes through small yamaroku soy sauce. A rare nationwide you can watch of soy sauce making in wooden barrels (other than here is not). After the tour comes with soy sauce taste. So far it free. ... However, you want to cheer, and looking for a serious talk about barrel-making and soy sauce manufacturing, thank you so much in direct bought the bulk of man? However, the soy sauce purchased at the time boasts no taste infinitely and mass produced goods are sold at the supermarket right now with cold feeling careless while traveling. I guess because there is confidence that only US tour of the warehouse. Or trying to order my wife would no longer has to talk. Was that we visited on a weekday, but soy pudding is Saturday and Sunday only. Will be also sold out at the weekend, should be taken.

  • It is one of the oldest soya sauce factory that has been running over many generations. They are still using wooden vats that are over hundred years old. It gives the glimpse of traditional soya sauce industry. Worth a visit.
  • Great products. Charming staff. Perfect experience to better understand how shoyu sauce is made. Don't forget to treat yourself after the visit with a shoyu-vanilla ice cream!
  • Wonderful place that makes not only traditional soy sauce, but also builds and teaches how to build traditional soy sauce barrels. One of the few remaining places in Japan that does that. Of course, you can buy soy sauce there, and it's delicious.

  • Traditional manufacturer of soy sauce, which is fermented in Cedar barrels, some in use for centuries. The sauces are fermented from 2 to 4 years. Also try the moroni, the fermented dough to use as a topping or on bread.
