Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, Shizuoka

(4.3/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
Pay a visit to the historic, spiritual, and strikingly ornamental Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, a Shinto shrine located on a mountain. Particularly well known as the burial place of the first Shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate--the last feudal Japanese military government--the shrine was founded in 1617. The main hall and area for offerings represent two of the most notable structures of the shrine, designated National Important Cultural Properties by the Japanese government. They feature ornate wood carvings, painted patterns over black lacquer, and gold leaf showing the colorful and vibrant style of the late Momoyama period. Using our world travel planner, Shizuoka attractions like Kunozan Toshogu Shrine can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • I visited 40 years Buri, but no sense of scale as the Nikko Toshogu Shrine. People travelling by car to and from Mt. Kuno in the cable car, leave your car at the parking lot of Japan that many people like, but preferably cable way should be available down from Mt. Kuno Kuno beneath seaside eat special dry shrimp Tempura in the dining room at the orchard, Ishigaki strawberries I bought. But from there directly to Shizuoka station, along the way including the transit bus is 1 hour much care why.

  • 40 min. by bus from Shizuoka station after you move, you must move about 5 minutes to the cable car. Deep in the mountains, so it's a good idea to.

  • From Miho-no-Matsubara can go less than 3000 Yen by taxi up to kunouzan Toshogu Shrine under. I think you'd better go by taxi is going by bus from Miho-no-Matsubara, Shimizu station out once, from there down Kuno mountain by bus or buses is very low, if you travel with more than one name in.
