Farm Tourist Spot
Set in an idyllic green valley of 3,000 hectares (7,400 acres), Koiwai Farm Makibaen rests at the base of Mt. Iwate. Get in touch with nature through a variety of activities: milk a cow, ride a horse, hike through the scenic valley, or visit the astronomical observatory. You can sample fresh milk and eggs--and don't miss the real delicacy here, a fluffy omelet with rice. Learn how to craft wool and produce homemade butter. Admire the solitary cherry tree, planted 100 years ago to provide shade for farmers and cows on the farm. Before you leave, pick up some of the farm's delicious dairy products, famous all over Japan for their full flavor.
