The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go Traditional Houses in the Gassho Style, Shirakawa-mura

The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go Traditional Houses in the Gassho Style offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of villagers occupying traditional wooden frame houses. These houses, built in the "gassho-zukuri" (prayer hands) style, are known for their steeply slanted roofs, which recall two hands joined in prayer. The homes are very large, built to house entire extended families and family businesses and to withstand the region's heavy snowfall in winter. Enter one or two of the designated open houses to see the layout and delicate decorations inside. • I discovered this village thanks to my partner who knew him without ever going there. The absence of tourists mass allowed us to discover this site with confidence. After a trip to tokyo, the contrast is striking. Late winter landscape is beautiful and the tour of homes is well worth the village. We spent the night there and the morning gave us a desert place of any tourist... happiness.

  • Travellers visited in the middle of March. In Hida-Takayama the night before and the morning bus q concentrated bus] to went on. Time is about one hour. Advance book bus if the departure morning despite eight had many tourists from overseas during the holidays, it is strongly recommended. Went in the morning, shops etc. was still before it opens, but bus stop immediately before shuttle observation units was out so I took immediately. [One-way 200 yen] reached the observation deck in about 15 minutes. Views from the observation deck is best, you can watch the Shirakawa-go. One morning, so people less and watch. I think you could not watch so quietly, so there were plenty of tourists during the day. I slowly walk the good thing by the way, do not use the bus within walking distance, so have enough time. Around the facility and shop opens at 10 am and became busy. You could spend many tourists is the countryside around the clock. I thought I can see enough if their present half-day.
