#1 of 6 in Museums in Shirakawa-mura
Take a trip to Gassho Zukuri Minka-en, an open-air museum with traditional farmhouses, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The iconic design of the wooden houses, said to resemble hands clasped together in prayer, developed so as to keep the snow off during the winter months. In a mountainous rural area where the design still dominates, the museum gives visitors the chance to see inside the farmhouses, as well as learning about traditional agricultural methods and the lifestyle of farmers and their families. • Village choir-built houses and shops; Well actually I'm living here is like that. Also to explore it because the streets are well maintained was. Wang Chan is a spot can take a visit. Of course, such as a building but it is not good to come in. You can enjoy the streets and eating together. I cannot drink alcohol non alcohol rice wine that is is called doburoku ice cream here and there, but so, okay. Puffed rice is topped and very clean. How to buy beans candy shops, but there is, I don't know. Soy flour is very recommended. So eat outside restaurants that precedes the Graceland parking lot on the other side pay facility is one fine families who took part also in the other. Order and buy a ticket there are noodles! Front-a nice noodle shop and there is one right is also good, but did no good no good. People crowded to go of houses, when the bridge is very narrow, so can hug one-CHAN a hug it is safe. It was hard to walk the edge as some people fear because of a large dog. So many people are slowly Wang Chan was in place. Would love to see the snow season.

  • A nice open air museum featuring many Gassho Zukuri. A must see unless you are planning to visit Takayama as Hida Mura is similar, but has a better variety of buildings.
  • This is open air museum for showing japanese traditional house. Admision fee is 600jpy. This place have a good view.
  • Very beautiful place. Only 600 Yen entry ticket. Heritage ghasso houses are must visit.
  • Model village with 20+ Gassho Zukuri houses set up inside of it. The houses were relocated from neighboring villages, being a variety of ages. Several are important structures which is why they were preserved. Many burned down 100 years ago, so we're reconstructed to varying degrees. There is good signage in English, Japanese and booklets with more information. The entrance fee is 600Y, which does not make it expensive. Tour groups do not come here so you will avoid the throngs of tourists as you see in the rest of the village.
  • Open air museum which is missed by many. It allows you to look around many different houses and has a very nice slow paced atmosphere, which you won't find in the town on a busy day. Entrance fee but certainly worth it.

Where to stay in Shirakawa-mura

Located to the south of the main tourist village, the accommodations of Shirakawa-mura primarily come in the form of the traditional sloped-roof farmhouses of the historic village. Converted into hotels and guesthouses, or newly built in the distinctive style so as to fit in, the accommodations serve a mixed clientele, with a choice of budget-friendly hostels and luxury "ryokan" (traditional guesthouses). The village of Hirase further to the south has a number of standard hotels and ryokan, as well as some seasonal camping options, linked up to the main tourist village by road.
