Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Shinjuku
(4.4/5 based on 3,800+ reviews on the web)
Catch sweeping views of the city from one of the two public observation decks at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Completed in 1990, the postmodern building designed by Japanese architect Kenzo Tange references a Gothic cathedral. Inside, the governing bodies for the entire Tokyo metropolitan area have their headquarters. At 202 m (663 ft), the building's observation decks each contain a cafe and souvenir shop. One of them stays open late, providing glittering views of the skyline on clear nights. With our custom trip planner, Tokyo attractions like Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Free access! all you have to do is to stand in line. Once at the top on the 45th floor, you can enjoy the endless views of Tokyo. We were here with sunset, but any time of the day will be just fine. It wasn't quite bright, but in the distance we caught a glimpse of Mount Fuji. Oh you state, behind glass!

  • One of the must go to places when in Tokyo - its for free and you can take pictures of the beautiful skyline.
  • The best part of going to the Government buildings is that it is free. It is also interesting to see what a government bldg looks like. The views are nice but you can get way better views at Tokyo Cit...  more »

  • Top atraction, top view and for free. Free wifi and if you are lucky you can see Fujy Mount!
  • 6pm visit, North Tower... With no que and only 55 seconds to the 45th floor it's worth 30 minutes of time to check out Tokyo's skyline at night. Oh and freeeee...
  • The plebs are only allowed up to the 45th floor, but the view is dope. Do it at any time of day. I'd also recommend taking a picture of all the pedestrians down below, sadistically crushing them between your thumb and index finger. A maniacal chuckle helps. So this is how Godzilla must have felt!
  • A free high rise view of tokyo. A must see for any visiting traveler. On a good day you will be able to see Mt Fuji in the distance. There is a nice cafe and lots of touristy info to look at. There can be a bit of a line, but it moves pretty quickly.
  • Excellent veiw of tokyo from the top foor. IT TOTALLY FREE! Went up the right tower, but the view for mnt Fuji probably better in the left one. (They change each tower every other day) if your in Shinjuku it a must ^_^
