Shinjuku Sumitomo Building, Shinjuku

(3.4/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
Anyone with an interest in architecture will enjoy a trip to the top of Shinjuku Sumitomo Building. Step into the one-time fastest elevators in the world, which travel at 540 m (1,771 ft) per minute as they whisk you to the free observation platform and sky lounge restaurants that wait at the summit. At 210.3 m (690 ft) tall, it was the tallest building in the city until 1974, when it was surpassed. Take note of the building's unusual floor plan; built in a triangluar shape with its corners cut off, each of its sides reveal a different view of the city (with the obervatory and restaurants on each side). You'll also notice that the building's triangular atrium extends the full height of the building, creating an impressive sight. Make Shinjuku Sumitomo Building a centerpiece of your Tokyo vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Tokyo trip itinerary maker.

  • It is triangular-shaped white building, so easy even from far away. High-floor restaurant has good views and is recommended for sunny weather. At lunchtime on a weekday is crowded with Office workers.

  • Currently undergoing renovations. Even though the elevator to each floor, some stop being completely unmodified in the navigation system. Therefore takes rests on the (perceived) twice before. Restaurants on the top floor is deserted by withdrawing a spate of bus stop escalators between floors, lights, stop music shop. If you want, but I'm glad it's been vacant shops familiar at any time to withdraw or don't care. On the other hand, night Observatory has become and the better off the beaten path. In order for access from the parking tower and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building fails, parking is no longer rental time for the general public, especially overnight visitors have dropped sharply. Frankly, cannot be recommended at present.

  • Known as the "triangle building" folks say. Form a triangle from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office, such as housing from the previous operation has been. And tenants of Sumitomo's Tokyo head office, branch office, branch, operated by member organizations only Sumitomo companies, Sumitomo Club (* Osaka higobashi headquarters is located) is on the top floor was recently followed by merged with Mitsui-Sumitomo as the looks won't last. And then also complain the Bill being awaited renewal effect.

  • Nice central view in the city. It's nice how those people can make simple yet amazing things.
  • Lots of cheap yet good local restaurants
  • If you are a foreigner and rely on public wifi internet access, there is no free public available in the boarding and waiting areas. Other than that, everything is straightforward and simple for a bus terminal. Friendly staff.
  • Good place
  • Good for views over the city and of Mt Fuji on a clear day.
