Odakyu Department Store Shinjuku, Shinjuku

3.5
#39 of 243 in Shopping in Tokyo
Situated in the heart of the bustling commercial center of Tokyo, the massive Odakyu Department Store Shinjuku dominates the western side of the ward's railway station and hosts 14 stories of shopping. The department store caters predominantly to female customers, with just a single floor dedicated to men, and another reserved for food (the very bottom floor). That said, you can find almost anything here, from luxury fashion items to homewares and sports equipment. Hungry shoppers should check out the food market in the basement, where a huge selection of Japanese fare begs to be sampled. • To stay-weekday it was stopped after a very long time, but people were scattered. And not only foreign nationals.

  • On the basement level of this department store has so many food stalls with delicious fresh seafood & ready made food. You will also find 10000 yen for one musk melon and 6000 yen for one mango!
  • It is huge, multi level and building you can get almost everything here. The service personal also very helpful and polite. Worth your time for shopping spree.
  • We found a really nice pair of Adidas shoes here and availed it with a sweet tax refund! *Tears of joy! We weren't supposed to buy shoes and this happened. :)
  • Great store. They have a huge kimono and ukata section with large varieties. Shop assistants are very nice too, even till the last minute before closing. Odakyu has given me a wonderful shopping experience.
  • After 9 pm, the bridge connecting the buildings becomes homeless's refuge. They should do something about it. Now I can't get past thinking Odakyu equals homeless irony.

Where to stay in Tokyo

Tokyo abounds with excellent places to stay, from luxury affairs to humble budget-friendly lodgings. Its glittering skyscrapers house numerous international four- and five-star hotels, both in the populous cultural hotspots of Shinjuku and in the business centers of Akasaka and Shinbashi. Meanwhile, hostels catering to the shoestring traveler lie scattered throughout the city. For a memorable, distinctly Japanese experience, seek out a ryokan, a traditional bed and breakfast with tatami floor mats and sliding screen doors.
