Ouchijuku, Shimogo-machi

(3.7/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
Step back into the Edo period during a venture around Ouchijuku, a historic post station now located within a larger town. Post stations were built to provide travelers transporting goods across the country with somewhere to stay and rest, and the squat wooden buildings have a pleasing aesthetic, nestled together among the mountainous landscape. Take the time to admire the thatched roofs of the well-preserved buildings, and pop in to see what they now contain, with many of the buildings now open to the public in the form of museums, cafes, souvenir shops, and restaurants. Ouchijuku is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Shimogo-machi Edition.

  • More were on the way to Aizu-Wakamatsu. I think a valuable place in the old town has remained intact. The old thatched houses and as souvenirs and Ms has cafes and restaurants. I would so eat green onions with buckwheat, but did not eat, also next time I want to eat. Like a shrine, Museum and enjoyed it. Why you bring your foreigner friends is joy.
