Lake Biwa, Shiga Prefecture

4.2
#1 of 63 in Parks in Shiga Prefecture
One of the 20 oldest lakes in the world, dating back to 4 million years ago, Lake Biwa holds an enormous cultural and historical significance for the country. References to the iconic lake can be found in numerous great works of literature, especially in poems and stories about the great battles that have been fought in its vicinity. If you visit during summer months, you’ll see "hanabi" (fireworks above the lake), while you can also join an annual marathon that has taken place by the lake since 1962. Take a walk on the beach bordered by pine trees, have a picnic, go swimming, and enjoy the views by the clear water. • This lake is worth visiting or at very least driving by. I enjoyed the scenic view, especially in the early morning hours.
  • Love Biwako, the north part of the lake is best.

  • Beautiful Lake North of Lake Biwa, is also managing the old-fashioned people remained a place quiet. In view of good cafes and restaurants had become a resort there.

Where to stay in Nagahama

With accommodations ranging from traditional Japanese ryokans to Western-style high-rise hotels, Nagahama offers plenty of places to stay. The majority of the city's lodgings lie within walking distance from the station, also putting the main attractions at your doorstep. Traditional lodgings on the waterfront and at the edge of the central park are popular, with many providing onsite restaurants and luxurious private onsens. If you're traveling on a shoestring, a smattering of more modest complexes lies farther back from the waterfront, equipped with all the basic amenities required for a good night's sleep.
