Shibuya Crossing, Shibuya

#8 of 5,473 in Things to do in Tokyo
Landmark · Tourist Spot
Take part in one of the most iconic scenes in Tokyo by joining the crowds through Shibuya Crossing, an enormous bustling intersection outside Shibuya station. Flanked by illuminated skyscrapers on each corner, the intersection buzzes with organized chaos as pedestrians cross in every direction at once. Watch the hypnotic movement of the crowds from afar--ideally from the windows of one of the surrounding buildings--before diving into the packed but orderly masses yourself. • It is one of the must see places/attractions in shibuya area even though it is just a road crossing. When you are in the 5 road crossing it is so crowded that you can not understand much. But when...  more »
  • I felt like I was in an anime or in a movie since this part of Tokyo is so heavily portrayed in the media. The Hachiko statue is right by the street, so is one of the entrances of Shibuya station...  more »
  • You need to see it to believe it. So Chaotic yet very organized. It has two busiest railway stations nearby which makes this crosswalk extremely busy during peak hours. Thousands of pedestrians await....  more »
  • You have to go to Shibuya crossing and see it while you are in Tokyo. It's an amazing sight and just to walk around under the neon lights is enchanting and crazy. It was fun and amusing seeing the crosswalks of Shibuya it was like four crosswalks interacting with one another. So many people. Amazing thing is that Japanese are so quiet. In subway at the crossings it was like seeing a movie in Mute. People there are so polite you can't even talk on the phone in public/subways since it may annoy your neighbor's.
  • The most famous and iconic crossing in Japan and possibly the world I guess. Surprisingly despite the massive crowd is still orderly and fairly quiet. Odd ain't it but it's a direct reflection of the Japanese culture which I find amazing. Best view of the crossing would be to find higher ground and for that the Starbucks window spots are killer but the waiting time itself is a killer hence I decided to be down there at the crossing to feel d experience directly.
  • The iconic Shibuya Crossing is a must visit while in Tokyo. One has to experience crossing the street here, nothing to write about it. It is fun. One could sit at the Starbucks and have a good view of the crossing. As a tourist this was super fun to me and amazing experience, I also spent half an hour watching.
  • Interesting place and a huge conglomeration of people. It's a really busy place and it's not as if people are touring around, the crossing is part of people's regular commute. Worth visiting this place and taking a shot. Would recommend going to the Starbucks cafe (first floor) opposite the metro station to get a nice view.
  • Great tourist spot. Cafe at top of shopping block does lovely food with a great view of the crossing. Lovely shops both alternative and fashionable. Liked the little hello kitty shop on the bottom floor :)
