Sendai Mediatheque, Sendai

3.9
#10 of 110 in Things to do in Sendai
Futuristically designed and award winning, Sendai Mediatheque serves as both a major library and a significant architectural achievement. The building's architects used vertical tubes and huge glass walls to erase the boundary between the interior and exterior. The seven floors of this eye-catching structure house exhibit spaces, a theater, meeting rooms, administrative offices, a multimedia library, a cafe, and souvenir shop. • Here is a fun use books and borrowing on a regular basis twice a month is a Ministry of the earlier library use and on the first floor offers delicious lunch menu-has introduced this time look at "recorded the hosokura Terasaki Eiko's exhibition" a 7th floor lounge free of charge. Shoot and whereabouts of the people who live there in her 1941 born in Manchuria, and the family moved to the hosokura (mine) and announced the closure of the mine, and this time a - archive or developing negatives about 300 photos, taken from notes, the mentioned article and also one. Photograph of the raw site alive and reminded at that time people's lives 10 minutes. Outsider is asked or is through this local residents from the old lady answered. The old lady to the end seriously impressive looking. I think many people's borrowing of books in the public library's story changed, and always go on the 3rd floor and in jozenji Dori in front of nice looking and good comic relief. 5th floor and 6th floor usually Gallery-turned, has exhibited a variety of entertainment. Furthermore, the building is very nice and the also is recommended for travellers. Finally I (70's) always delicious Carre - lunch (salad, with a drink) ¥ 750 satisfied, went home.

  • I like to come here to read, it is very quiet and it has many titles on different languages. It is a good place to study, there is a coffee shop so it is a good please to relax and read.
  • The highlight of the Sendai Mediatheque is not the books but is the building - a giant glass cube which sits proudly in the centre of the city. Absolutely gorgeous from the outside and some quirky interior design.
  • Very well designed building. Good library and exhibition hall but nothing much here.
  • I visited the Sendai Mediatheque last summer. It is a good place to look up for books. Any architects interested in new form of archictecture or interior design, look up here. There are art galleries, a library and a cafeteria as well.
  • Famous architecture and generally pleasant place to visit to see art exhibits or events. Go to the top floor to get a bird's-eye view of Jozenji-dori and its green river of zelkova trees or awesome lights during the wintertime Pageant of Starlight. Support services for the vision and hearing impaired, 2 floor library, and a restaurant with many types of Belgian beer make this a trip anyone can enjoy.

From standard high-rise hotels to traditional "ryokan" (guesthouses), they sit pretty close to the main train station, forming clusters around the main public parks, commercial developments, and temples.
