Sendai Castle (Aoba Castle), Sendai

3.6
#1 of 110 in Things to do in Sendai
Visit the historic site of Sendai Castle (Aoba Castle), an Edo-period structure destroyed in World War II. Demolished during the 1945 bombing of Sendai by the United States, only the ruins of moss-covered stone walls remain on site. Visit the castle museum to see a model of what the building used to look like, inspect a reconstructed guard tower, and admire relics from the castle’s past. From the hilltop on which it stands, the castle and its grounds offer panoramic views of Sendai. Sendai Castle (Aoba Castle) is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Sendai Edition.

Who know date Masamune's Castle where, overlooks the whole city. And, ensconced in a heroic equestrian statue of a famous vistas would have watched the Masamune. At that time the atmosphere feels honmaru Pavilion is no longer. Even concocted this view with the equestrian statue would be worth a visit. Looping they will walk so hopefully in Sendai, but down in the subway station and walk down pretty hard Hill to climb. By the way return the same looping makes that issue or subway. You might use a taxi but Sendai Castle. 外senai Sendai coming attractions

It's so sad to see the remains only, yet, wonderful statues and views of Sendai city can be enjoyed. There is a local market with souvenir and food.

Only the foundation remains of the castle but the view is specatcular and there's lots of interesting information. There's a museum by the gift shop which is quite small but interesting. You can reach the main gate with the Loople Sendai bus but it's a very nice walk up the hill from the Sendai city museum.

If you expected a building that resembles an actual japanese castle, you will be disappointed. It is a great walk up a hill with great views

Where to stay in Sendai

In the city center of Sendai, you'll find a good range of budget and luxury accommodations to suit a range of tastes. From standard high-rise hotels to traditional "ryokan" (guesthouses), they sit pretty close to the main train station, forming clusters around the main public parks, commercial developments, and temples. The surrounding landscape features a number of "onsen" (traditional Japanese spas) located in clusters around hot springs. Take a look close at Mount Okura and Kamakurayama for some of the most concentrated patches of spa retreats.
