Sendai Castle (Aoba Castle), Sendai

(3.5/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Visit the historic site of Sendai Castle (Aoba Castle), an Edo-period structure destroyed in World War II. Demolished during the 1945 bombing of Sendai by the United States, only the ruins of moss-covered stone walls remain on site. Visit the castle museum to see a model of what the building used to look like, inspect a reconstructed guard tower, and admire relics from the castle’s past. From the hilltop on which it stands, the castle and its grounds offer panoramic views of Sendai. Sendai Castle (Aoba Castle) is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Sendai Edition.

  • From Sendai city and is enjoyed in its own way, such as the time of cherry blossoms. But unfortunately as stone walls remain. Looping are is fun because you can go to the front of the Sendai bus will take you the. From Sendai station was about 20 minutes each way. Way back in one way round up and around so it takes time. Often the "looping that Sendai" take the subway on the way back. Or looping in one day Sendai tourism is sure to.

  • Only the foundation remains of the castle but the view is specatcular and there's lots of interesting information. There's a museum by the gift shop which is quite small but interesting. You can reach the main gate with the Loople Sendai bus but it's a very nice walk up the hill from the Sendai city museum.
  • To enjoy the full experience of this place, you should take the walk from the Museum at the foot of the hill. The nature surrounding in spectacular.
  • If you expected a building that resembles an actual japanese castle, you will be disappointed. It is a great walk up a hill with great views
  • Nice view on the city Beautiful place Worth seeing
  • This castle park has a great view of Sendai site. There are few trees and little to do, but it has a couple shops and cafes for a snack and a view.
