Moerenuma Park, Sapporo

(4.4/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Stroll through the exquisitely designed and geometrically perfect grounds of Moerenuma Park. Converted from a waste treatment facility and designed by Japanese American artist Isamu Noguchi, the park represents a monumental feat of urban design and a fusion of nature and art. Take part in a plethora of activities in any season, such as visiting the Moere Beach--a small pond opened during the summer--or even try skiing across the snow-covered grounds during the winter. Kids will be able to let loose on the park playgrounds, and couples can opt for a romantic stroll along the 150 m (500 ft) canal. You can hire a bike to explore all the park's attractions, such as the panoramic views from the peak of Mt. more, or the iconic glass pyramid. • Unforgettable excitement gave me high school was opened in the Park. Missed the master plan went late Isamu Noguchi did not live until the opening day. I think only Park offering American lands Cape, Hokkaido, Japan, landscape from this remains just want. Modern children's playground is to stimulate the art of children's play. Park is engraved on the heart has become so they, the 35-year-old 18 years since I was still inspired. Take a look at the childhood high play creativity in children are nurtured you want and wish.

  • I went during spring/summer. It was raining, however, I enjoyed the whole thing there. Being person who a little artsy, this is a worth place to visit. Perhaps, it could be less crowded all time, this...  more »
  • I liked the contrast of the blue sky and the green of the grass. Fused as a single space is dotted with Isamu Noguchi's works, the entire Park swimming as a work of art. Even if one day would never get bored. Restaurants and shops are located within the Park, seems to get stalls on holiday. Family play day especially recommend is.

  • This stunning park is a little bit out of the way, but well worth this visit. More of an art installation than just your averge park. On my trip it was a cloudy day, which actually made the visit quite pleasant as it was cool enough to comfortably traverse the park several times. The bike rentals were too cheap an opportunity to pass up, though be aware that if you're taller than your average Japanese person, you might struggle to find a bike that fits.
  • Giant park built on top of former garbage dump full of larger-than-life monuments designed by a renowned architect. Simply amazing. Human-made "mountains", Aztec-like pyramids, space-ship sculptures, synthetic beaches. This place epitomizes "nature tamed": a human-designed and conceptual interpretation of natural landscapes. Very cool playgrounds for children. By far, one of my favourite places in the city. Makes for awesome pictures.
  • It's hard to imagine a more bizarre location for such a spectacular park, but it's well worth the bus or taxi ride to get out here. The glass pyramid is the obvious highlight, but a couple of hours spent wandering around the whole park are definitely not wasted.
  • An incredible park with amazing architecture. Great for anyone, it has art galleries, a restaurant, a man-made beach and multiple playgrounds throughout.
  • You need to climb up that slope. The view is awesome. Pyramid building is unique. Looks like louvre from far.
