(600+ reviews on the web)
Nature / Park
Stroll through the exquisitely designed and geometrically perfect grounds of Moerenuma Park. Converted from a waste treatment facility and designed by Japanese American artist Isamu Noguchi, the park represents a monumental feat of urban design and a fusion of nature and art. Take part in a plethora of activities in any season, such as visiting the Moere Beach--a small pond opened during the summer--or even try skiing across the snow-covered grounds during the winter. Kids will be able to let loose on the park playgrounds, and couples can opt for a romantic stroll along the 150 m (500 ft) canal. You can hire a bike to explore all the park's attractions, such as the panoramic views from the peak of Mt. more, or the iconic glass pyramid. • Our plan was to cycle around the park but we reached there too late. The bicycle kiosk closes at 5pm with the last rental accepted at 4pm. Nevertheless, we had a wonderful time walking around the park...  more »

  • This is a great place to visit for a break from all the city hustle and bustle. It is so fun and interesting to walk around and is clearly designed to invoke a sense of fun and curiousity into its visitors. I would advise bringing a windbreaker as it does get pretty windy from all the hills and being near water.
  • This place is massive. Just massive. You can do picnic here, you can bring your family here, you can rent a bicycle and just go around all day long -- there is no limit. If you like architecture you'd also enjoy the landscape planning here, designed by a renowned Japanese architect.
  • This place had free parking. It was an enjoyable place to take a relaxing stroll. The picturesque small hill which brings climbing visitors to the summit offers a nice view of the city. The climb was managable and should be suitable for kids and physically well elderly. During spring, eagles can be spotted on top of the hill flying. The park has a vast space. Visitors can bring activities to the park, e.g sports and picnics.
  • I think it is worth going. It was a bit far by public transportation from Sapporo. The buses don't run often from subway stations. I would recommend to go to the park when it is nice out. The public bathrooms are out of toilet papers. :(
  • I went to this place in mid March which is still winter and the snow in here is still thick. The snowscape in here is fantastic. There's a small mountain named Mt Moerenuma that you can climb freely without any special equipment. If you love snow, I'll recommend this place as your place to visit in Sapporo.
