Historical Village of Hokkaido (Kaitaku-no Mura), Sapporo

4.2
Walk through the open air museum of Historical Village of Hokkaido (Kaitaku-no Mura) to see a range of historical eras brought to life. Divided into four different sections--a town, a fishing village, a farming village, and a mountain village--the museum collects 60 different buildings from across the region to show the developments in architecture and lifestyle that have occurred since the mid-19th century. Take the horse-drawn trolley down the main street, stopping off to explore the old stone and wood buildings, decked out with artifacts, tools, and art related to a given period and placed in situ. Historical Village of Hokkaido (Kaitaku-no Mura) is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Sapporo Edition.

  • Outdoor museum that showcases old buildings and lifestyle in Hokkaido. Transports u back in time. A good visit if u have 2 to 3 hours to spare. A lot of walking and one thing negative is that some houses requires u to take off shoes. Apart.. it's a nice time
  • A beautiful outdoor museum with all the old buildings of Hokkaido. This is a beautiful place to take photos. A horse carriage runs along the center of the road. Recommended to take a ride and enjoy the scenery. There is a children playground where you can play with tops, stilts, swings and more games. A free art and craft lesson is available to try out making your own toys. Transportation to this place is infrequent. remember to check the schedule.
  • An amazing piece of Hokkaido's history! Lots of great information and history. Such a shame that it's empty when there's no school trips.
  • Really wonderful place. Highly recommend to come. A little barrier to come is long distance from station to museum. Almost one bus per one hour. I walked up, it could be tired. But scenery is so nice and coming here is totally worth it.
  • Very Nice. Takes you back to the past. With English translations. It' like movie sets or a ghost town that is properly maintained if it makes any sense.
