  • The airport can be reached by rail linking downtown village. You can see the traditional houses in Sapporo. But the distance from the city is a bit off.

  • Great experience to see an old time village the way it was when there was a community. The attention to detail given in preserving this village is incredible. The buildings are very grand and the architecture is clearly from Western influence. It takes around 2 hours to see the whole town. There's an entrance offer with the Hokkaido Museum as well, it's a good opportunity to see both sites in the same day.
  • Although this was out of the way and far from the city, it was a nice place to see how the Japanese worked and lived before. There are many types of architecture that you can enter and have a glimpse of the past. We went in late December and it was covered in snow (which the kids loved). They can lend you snow boots too if you didn't bring. It's a huge area (one that we didn't get to explore all the way through).
  • Nice place to study the history of hokkaido. You can take dedicated bus number 22 from north bus station number 10 to get here. Admission fee was 800yen per person. You can rent traditional snow boot, ski boot, and sleigh for free.
  • Very large place and free to walk. Enjoyable walk but would be better to walk during a non-snowing period as some places could be too slippery to walk. Historical buildings were very well maintained although no heating is available in the building during winter. Lake at the village is a must visit with great views.
  • An interesting look into the history of life in Hokkaido. This museum park is staffed with very enthusiastic and helpful staff and volunteers (some of whom speak great English) and is a fine way to spend a couple of hours. I visited in summer and the many grassy field areas had flowers in bloom and looked very nice. The museum is comprised of a collection of old buildings from different time periods brought together to form a town of sorts. There is a town hall, stores, a school, fishing village area, a police box among others. I would recommend bringing food of your own if you intend to stay for a long time, as I do not recall any places offering food while there. It's a little out of the way from central Sapporo, but is within walking distance of a local train station.
