Inspirock Rating:
4/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web
Featuring a red brick construction and central dome, Former Hokkaido Government Office Building remains one of the country's rare examples of Neo-Baroque architecture. The historic landmark boasts a distinctive appearance based on government buildings from the American state of Massachusetts. Built in 1888 and rebuilt in 1911, the structure features a colorful flower garden, arched windows, block rooftops, and multiple protruding chimneys. Head inside to check out a small museum on the second floor, home to a collection of artifacts and displays chronicling the history of the island and the city. Keep in mind that many of the exhibit descriptions inside the building do not have English translations. • Visit it helped us to see first hand the conflict which existed historically and between Japan and Russia on the islands of the North... Free and perfectly located!

  • Stayed in the hotel, so went out for a morning walk. Beautiful building in the manicured flower beds. It is a perfect place to take a photo. Or located in a convenient location and then visited lots of tourists since this morning. Location of neatly stored inside the building and also the duck pond in the garden, very good impression.

  • Seems to be quite the Sapporo (IMHO) will just see this building in the tourist feel. Walking puffy et. and look at the good will. When I'm fine like this. Is personally watch with deeper emotion.

  • This city is known as the land of powder snow! If you want to experience winter wonderland. This is the place you should go. Despite the coldness of the weather the people of Hokkaido will keep you warm with their kindness and hospitality. The old brick design of the building gives this city a colorful vibe
  • Love the architecture. And I wonder why the basement is close. Though the huge pictures kinda creepy and all those artifacts in the main room. An eery portrayal the governor seat
  • I love the way they showed us memorial goods and stories.. And postcards in level 1 shop are one that you'll regret to miss.
  • The building is interesting and there are some free exhibits you can check out. Nothing was too spectacular but there was an interesting variety of items. There is also a small gift shop near the entrance.
  • Historical building but that is all there is to it
