Hike along Tojinbo Cliff, a series of rocky basalt cliffs that stretch for 1 km (0.6 mi) overlooking the Sea of Japan. Explore the rugged coast and note interesting rock formations eroded by the waves that crash on the bluffs, forming tall stone pillars and chasms. You can also enjoy the scenic landscape on a cruise along the shore, if the weather allows it. Climb the nearby Tojimbo Tower to enjoy a panoramic vista of the seaside beyond the cliffs. Where to stay in Sakai

A modern agglomeration of what were once multiple towns, the city of Sakai has many centers. Even so, it offers few places to stay, with just a small number of hotels close to the castle and over by the coast. The established town of Fukui to the south possesses a greater diversity of places to stay, including a number of standard hotels and traditional ryokans. The hot spring resort town of Awara, just north of Sakai, has a wealth of ryokans with onsite onsens.
