Historic Relic Sado Gold Mine, Sado

Journey back in time and into the earth at Historic Relic Sado Gold Mine, a museum detailing the history of the region's gold and silver mines. Displays and exhibits of life-size mannequins and animatronic puppets trace the last 400 years of the endeavors, from the Edo period (when convict-workers would dig by hand), up to the carts and rails of the Meiji period. Be sure to bring a jacket along as it can get chilly in the shafts, and come with some sturdy footwear. • Gold was mined here from 1601 to 1989. You can descend into the mine and local guides interpret for you. There is also a gold bar in a container that you can try to remove and a very good gift shop, f...  more »
  • I think that 外senai visitors to Sado Island tourist attractions. It is a place still remember elementary school when we interviewed 30 years ago. Moving dolls are placed everywhere, easy to imagine at that time, has written description is easy to understand. Was a delicious soft serve ice cream, soft ice cream powder took the last souvenir shop. Still good leaves.

  • Very interesting sightseeing place. It's exactly the used goldmine from the Edo era. They have explanations in English. Definitely a recommendation if you're in the area!
  • Love it.. Amazing place to learn how for hundreds years gold was mined
  • worth visiting, but a bit scary cause i went there during rainy day
  • The robots sell the place, but what made it special for me is that they had detailed models of the mine and mining facilities and explained exactly how the mine worked, from manually-transported mine ore to refining, smelting and, finally, minting. See if you can lift that 12.5KG massive gold bar.
  • short visit but good explanations and robots showing what it was like in the old days!
