Hieizan Enryaku-ji Temple, Otsu

(4.5/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
Head up the mountain to find Hieizan Enryaku-ji Temple, a Tendai Buddhist monastery acting as the headquarters of the Tendai sect, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded in 788 CE, the monastery's founding father, Saicho, was responsible for introducing the Tendai sect to Japan, and many other influential monks have studied here. Involved in many of the power struggles that defined feudal Japan, the buildings were destroyed in 1571, with most of the current buildings dating back to the early Edo period. • 想參觀比叡山延曆寺, 自駕上山是一個不錯的選擇, 不過要留意上山的路段要收費, 價錢要2380円, 都算幾昂貴! 而且冬天天氣太凍, 主要的建築正在大修。
  • So this year, wasn't but two years ago, from Hieizan Sakamoto station and climbed Mt. Hiei, passed to Prince kitashirakawa side of Kyoto. Shinndokattara hill-climbing, Sakamoto-also from the Kyoto side cable car. The Sakamoto cable car in Japan seems to be the longest. The deer can see if you're lucky. Summer goes to the top of the mountain and several degrees cooler. From, of course, is a sacred place of Buddhism in Japan, Shakyo for me. It is a sanctuary for body and mind.

  • The Enryaku-ji and the Sakamoto area is really worth a little day trip. You can visit the Hiei from Kyoto or by Otsu of the cable car. It has a beautiful view of Kyoto and on the other side on the Biwako Lake. A garden cable car driving from Kyoto with the (Eizan) upwards there is immediately at the unloading station Museum for flower lovers happy. 1,030 yen. After the visit of the Enryaku-ji, cable car leaves direction Otsu best with the (Sakamoto). In the Sakamoto area (yet not so well known) there are many small attractions including the Saikyo-ji Temple. The way back can do to Kyoto with JR one railway from Hiei Sakamoto station.
