  • Includes old steam loco and passenger car that you can board. Fun interactive switching game. Good history with some working dioramas. Nice turntable display with locos over time. Spent about an hour....  more »
  • Good train museum located in Otaru, take a bit of time to walk there from the canal, children should like it here.
  • This is the so-called Railway Museum. It becomes largest in Hokkaido. Has become a museum admission fee is 400 Yen, rather than just rail fans, families, etc. Going to SL "Shizuka No." greets. And active in the Meiji era, have been supporting the early Hokkaido train stage. Though this museum's highlights is outdoors. Cars once ran in Hokkaido, and were exhibited.

  • Not much to see in here. However, there's a small coffee bar with some excellent beer and coffee. Some antiquities for sale at reasonable prices. Found a cool old ship's flag for 1500 yen.
  • The ground floor of this museum focused exclusively on Hokkaido's railway network, with exhibits described in both Japanese and English. Upstairs was less well organised with no English labelling. Overall a slightly disappointing experience.
  • A good place to know about the expanding history of Otaru and Hokkaido.
  • I think as the birthplace of the Hokkaido Railway, a respectable institution. Can I get to the SL and then he can take on the exhibition vehicle. Regretably, is invisible from outside the train. It is good to appeal to more public facilities.

  • Showa nostalgia for train lovers! That could not be accomplished even stopped his car in the middle of touring left him too much time until closing time! Even though the Museum is 90% of rail-related exhibits. So many SL travel and outdoor exhibits of sunny days is recommended.
