Where to stay in Osaka

The majority of Osaka's moderate and expensive accommodations concentrate in the districts of Umeda, Kyobashi, Namba, and Shin-Osaka. Base your stay in or near Minami neighborhood for proximity to a wide selection of shopping and dining options. For quick access to long-distance transportation to other cities and areas, look for hotels in Kita district. Many backpackers prefer the budget options in the Tennoji area, where the quality of rooms and prices vary wildly--call or check websites of specific establishments before you make reservations.

  • Arrived by cruise ship and found the Giant Ferris Wheel right at the port. Cost was 800 yen and the ride was 20 minutes. Avoided the long line with the glass bottom car and got right on the ride. Grea...  more »
  • This ferris can be seen from far on top of buiding and lights up at night. Riding ferris , it provides bird eyeview pictute of Umeda business district.  more »
  • I had the Osaka pass so this was free, yet going up for a ride isn't pricey so it's quite worth the few hundred yen. Waited for 30 mins for a transparent cart but it was a nice day with chilly winds f...  more »

  • Worth the experience. Though if you are afraid of heights like me, it can be quite daunting when it's windy and the "cabin" you are seated in sways & "squeaks" slightly. Otherwise wonderful view. Whole ride is approx 15 mins or so.
  • Very lovely panoramic views of the Osaka port. A full ride takes around 15 minutes. Option to take the see-through gondola which has a transparent floor is free, but associated with longer wait. Very beautiful view. Combination ticket with aquarium available.
  • Only worth coming here if you have the amazing pass for osaka. Just a typical ferris wheel. You have the option for see through base or not. Little longer wait for the see through. Its a nice view. Scary for those afriad of heights. The aquarium and santa maria cruise is nearby.
  • Cool at night because of the various light patterns the wheel has. Also good for taking skyline pictures. Completely clear glass compartments available at no extra charge but with a much longer wait time. Clear car is pretty much just to say you did it because it doesn't offer any better view of the surrounding area. Regular compartments will do just fine for pictures of the skyline.
  • A very nice ferris wheel. A good way to get a view of Osaka from above. There are regular cabins and cabins with a glass bottom, but the queue for that is a lot longer. We waited in line, but were rerouted to the regular ones at the last moment, due to heavy winds.
