Shinsekai, Osaka

3.5
#16 of 1,030 in Things to do in Osaka
An Osaka neighborhood inspired by Paris and New York , Shinsekai offers visitors a riotous array of colorful signs, tiny eateries, and bustling crowds packing the narrow streets. You can wander the busy lanes and see how the working-class Japan lives, or grab some traditional barbecued meats and vegetables at one of the multitude of inexpensive diners along the way. Look towards the center of the district and you'll see the 103 m (338 ft) tall Tsuten-kaku--a distinctive steel tower originally constructed in 1912. • This is a tourist street but it's not busy and there are different restaurants, shops and food stalls to try different foods, especially sweet treats. It was a lovely walk around and if you want somew...  more »
  • Before the New World, Osaka was the main area, while the home left many of the previous features. To the goodwill of the Osaka people than the authentic life, can be on the loft to see the wind near the scene

  • Fun food and souvenir shopping area. Known for its neon lights, there is one main thoroughfare and lots of side alley ways with surprisingly good hidden gems. On one end is a very trendy and hip souvenir shop that is also close to a hello kitty themed parking lot. On the other end, a slew of seafood restaurants with nifty facades and a variety of specialties. There is one liquor store and of course you can drink in public. The tower itself it's own exhibit that we opted not to do.
  • Colourful and happening at night ! Variety of restaurants to choose from. The most famous for this district is Kushikatsu - every meat or vegetable are deep fry. Just a dip into provided sauce n eat! Budget sushi restaurant also in the list. However during peak hours do expect a long queue for 20mins onwards. Restaurants at this area are quiet small therefore be prepares to squeeze a bit!
  • One of the most interesting streets of Osaka. the restaurants are very cheap so I guess it's a go to place if you are short on your budget. The buildings are very well decorated so this is a perfect spot to take pictures.
  • Bright, busy, colourfully lit up streets. The food seems cheap and there are many options to choose from. There is a street dedicated to small cosy karaoke bars.
  • Not as Crowded as Namba, this touristic place is a must see for the style of the restaurants and also for the variety of cheap food to offer. It is close to Spa World and you can see some old places that makes some kind of time travel throught the past (Like the Go gaming association, the Smart Ball parlor or the old movie theater with their charm movie in screen)
