Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street, Osaka

Browse through Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street, a covered arcade of shops offering buyers a range of foods, special ingredients, and cooking instruments. Osaka has a reputation as "Japan's kitchen" and the 150 m (492.1 ft) long shopping arcade's name roughly translates as "Cooking Tools Street." It's a go-to spot for the city's chefs and restaurateurs, so by default you could say it's one of the best places to pick up an authentic kitchen souvenir, such as a Japanese knife or bowl. The shops are densely packed with wares, but don't be put off looking in each, as different items can still be found across the arcade. • An awesome street filled with kitchenware, restaurant equipment and the most amazing knives you've ever seen. We bought some beautiful Japanese ceramics to use back home and I can't believe how cheap they were. So lucky to have stumbled upon this amazing place!
  • This place was a home makers dream come true, it sells almost everything your heart could desire. At less than half the price you'd expect to pay back home in Australia. The pottery and knives were exquisite and had me wishing a had a whole lot more luggage space for the trip back. Definitely worth the visit 👌
  • Wide variety of ceramic bowls, bakeware, cookware, decorative door curtains, replica food display and cooking equipment. Available for both retail sale and wholesale. Cash only for retail purchases at most shops.
  • A veritable feast for the eyes with amazing homewares we pay through the nose for back home. Check out the knives. Iron chef here I come.
  • An amazing alley to come for everything related to cooking. Authentic Japanese cookware to put in your commercial restaurant? They have it! Cheap tableware? They have it! Incredible handmade cutlery? Oh boy do they have it! If you like eating out in Japan, or are someone who enjoys cooking, this is a MUST-VISIT in Osaka - my favorite food destination in Japan!

Where to stay in Osaka

The majority of Osaka's moderate and expensive accommodations concentrate in the districts of Umeda, Kyobashi, Namba, and Shin-Osaka. Base your stay in or near Minami neighborhood for proximity to a wide selection of shopping and dining options. For quick access to long-distance transportation to other cities and areas, look for hotels in Kita district. Many backpackers prefer the budget options in the Tennoji area, where the quality of rooms and prices vary wildly--call or check websites of specific establishments before you make reservations.
