Osaka Castle, Osaka
Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Built and rebuilt numerous times since 1653, Osaka Castle looms over its surrounding gardens, moats, imposing stone walls, gates, and turrets. Take the elevator up to the observation deck on the castle’s eighth floor, or wander the garden between the complex’s many structures, stopping in the tea house for a snack. The castle, originally intended to help with the unification of Japan, was captured and changed hands over a dozen times. Visit the museum within to learn more about the castle’s history. Asked Japanese people's entrance after the 5th floor go up the elevator, alone. Beautiful well maintained castle and immaculate gardens , well organised sign posted unguided tour around the inside of this place. There is no furniture inside but lovely wall murals.
The park is awesome and full of magnificent sights. Would've given 5 stars except the view from the top of the actual castle is totally obscured by netting to keep objects from falling. Looking at the castle is amazing but looking from it not so much. There is an entrance fee to the castle but not to the surrounding park.
The castle look so great outside. I love the most and the garden so much. Coming inside, it is quite crowded and looks like a museum. I only gave it 4 stars since it cost me 600 yen for visiting the castle only. If I want to visit another place in the castle area, I have to pay more. But in general, the castle is a should-not-be-missed place in Osaka.
The castle is beautiful from the outside but inside it has been converted into a modern museum and little of the traditional structure is visible. Few information is available in other languages and there are few artefacts to be admired. Recommend a walk by but not worth the effort going inside.
The castle moats, walls and entraceways were the highlight of our visit. During cherry blossom season the surrounding grounds make for a nice place to walk around. The castle itself looks impressive from a distance and has nice views from the top floor. The keep is a modern reconstruction however some don't go in expecting to get an authentic castle experience.
A tourist location that is definitely a must-see. You learn so much about the history of Osaka and of Japan as a whole. If you plan to see the Osaka Aquarium (Kaiyukan), then definitely get the two day pass that you can purchase only at either the castle or the aquarium. It saved me about $8 USD per person, and it also gave me special access to different parts of the Osaka Castle that normal ticket holders do not.
