Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka

4.3
#6 of 40 in Museums in Osaka
Find masterpieces of East Asian ceramics at Museum of Oriental Ceramics, with over 6,000 items mainly from Korea and China. The three-story museum boasts one of the finest ceramics collections in the world, focusing on fine craftsmanship rather than the history of ceramics. Viewed in naturally lit galleries, these pieces belong to national treasures of three countries: ancient Korea, China, and Japan. An informative video explains how this treasure was unearthed, and how it's been preserved and displayed. After visiting the museum, stop for a drink in the tea salon. • Just Boring. The exhibition is dull and the explanations are too concise.
  • Disaponting...looked for japanese pottery...found mainly korean & chinese
  • Fine collection of ceramics, especially Korean celadon ware. Almost no Japanese pieces, though. Detailed descriptions of individual pieces, next to nothing on broader evolution of the craft.
  • This is a unique place that allows you to know better all the history of pottery, great spot
  • Without the Kansai day pass....it cost Yen 1200..and audio guide Yen 500.....the works of the master Miyagawa Kozan is amazing...beautiful glazing technique and skill...extremely intricate relief sculpture on pottery with amazing coupled with realistic colour...just simply lost of words...

Where to stay in Osaka

The majority of Osaka's moderate and expensive accommodations concentrate in the districts of Umeda, Kyobashi, Namba, and Shin-Osaka. Base your stay in or near Minami neighborhood for proximity to a wide selection of shopping and dining options. For quick access to long-distance transportation to other cities and areas, look for hotels in Kita district. Many backpackers prefer the budget options in the Tennoji area, where the quality of rooms and prices vary wildly--call or check websites of specific establishments before you make reservations.
