Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka

4.2
#5 of 43 in Museums in Osaka
Find masterpieces of East Asian ceramics at Museum of Oriental Ceramics, with over 6,000 items mainly from Korea and China. The three-story museum boasts one of the finest ceramics collections in the world, focusing on fine craftsmanship rather than the history of ceramics. Viewed in naturally lit galleries, these pieces belong to national treasures of three countries: ancient Korea, China, and Japan. An informative video explains how this treasure was unearthed, and how it's been preserved and displayed. After visiting the museum, stop for a drink in the tea salon. • 2 national treasures, ceramics of China, Korea, and Japan are clearly displayed. I had held featured exhibition: "Chinese pottery warriors charm". Pottery warriors who were created to be buried in Tomb I look in, you won't feel timeless. You could see the two national treasures exhibition luckily went to the Museum of fine arts for the first time. It is a valuable Museum of photography is allowed.

  • The bridge subway station is 15 minutes ' walk from here, which can be said to be quite different from the bustling Osaka. It's not cheap, and 1200 yen, if not interested in ceramic art, may not be appreciated. But you can go there and feel the art of Osaka.

  • Even if you are the type who says “ who wants to see a bunch of pots”, you will be converted by the exquisite displays, and awesome and thoughtful curation. The natural lighting is amazing!
  • Have a great colocation of Asian ceramics. If you have history and ceramic, you will enjoy this place. 2 hours is more than enough to spend here. I wish there are more explanation in English.
  • A small museum but with some interesting exhibits.
  • Just Boring. The exhibition is dull and the explanations are too concise.
  • Fine collection of ceramics, especially Korean celadon ware. Almost no Japanese pieces, though. Detailed descriptions of individual pieces, next to nothing on broader evolution of the craft.
