(4.2/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Taste the old days of Osaka at Matsuzakagyu Yakiniku M, Hozenji Yokocho, set in a narrow stone-paved lane of the city’s bohemian quarter. An Edo-era row with gastropubs, cafes, and nearby old theaters, the alley makes a popular spot to sample the city's nightlife and taste some great food. Smell incense wafting from the Hozen shrine tucked in the alley off the busy main streets, and see the famous mossy Buddha, the "kami" of fury, now fully covered in moss. Stop for a prayer, pour water over statues, or find an eatery and hunt for souvenirs along the alley, which sits 5 minutes walk from Namba station, exit 14. Put Matsuzakagyu Yakiniku M, Hozenji Yokocho at the forefront of your travel plans using our Osaka vacation planner.

  • A few meters away from the bright lights of dotonbori there's this narrow and small alley full of small restaurants appealing. These restaurants are much frequented by the locals so I have to try! At the beginning or end of the street next to the hyper technological skyscrapers there is also a lovely Temple. I mean a journey into ancient Japan in a hundred meters!

  • This small tiny temple is in the center of a busy tourist area and it is very crowded. People come to throw water at the statue hence it is covered in moss ad it is forever wet.
  • Quaint if you go to a hozenji saiko fudoson temple the wish. Mossy, pressured water to many people is not to be missed. Waiting in line in side by side might have even your estate's water to study!

  • Over priced place, nothing special at all. Rude, unfriendly foreign staff( non- Japanese), mostly Taiwanese. Worst dining experience during our entire stay in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka). If for the price they charge, probably the worst ever customer services ever received in my life so far. We have received excellent customer services from all other Japanese staff in other restaurants in Japan( either expensive fancy ones or cheaper ones) but definitely not this one so not sure if it's due to the majority staff being non- Japanese as they all seemed to speak Chinese fluently. Also no need to book this restaurant in advance at all, we just showed up at 6pm and did not wait at all. Most customers are tourists in this place. Terrible dining experience with the $$$$ we paid for the dinner. Strongly NOT recommended!
  • a huge disappointment. We ordered their most popular menu, which was around ¥1500 for two people. we were served 6 different types of matsuzakagyu meat. the 2 types-flap meat and sirloin steak-were great, but the other 4 types of meat were very tough and we had to chew on them for a very long time :( it was below our expectation. btw, the customers have to cook the meat. we tried everything to make the meat less tough but it didnt work. we let the waitress know, but nothing was done about it. the only good thing about it was its location at Dotonbori, a popular tourist site.
  • Amazing quality and service. We had the deluxe meat sample platter so we could easily try a variety of the meat on offer and it was a perfect way to experience the various cuts. We teamed it up with some seaweed salad and garlic rice which was a great combo. Our waitress could speak English as she was well traveled which added to the night as well. Highly recommend!
  • Voted #1 Japanese restaurant by TripAdvisor. And this place does live up to its reputation. Recommend any kind of meat for grill and stone bowl rice with beef.
  • We went to the store by the Dotonbori river for dinner tonight and had an awesome time. Food and service was more than excellent! There was even a birthday surprise at the end of the dinner :) Strongly recommend!!
