Takasakiyama Nature Zoo, Oita

4.1
#1 of 31 in Outdoors in Oita Prefecture
Observe a monkey feeding frenzy at Takasakiyama Nature Zoo, a spot at the foot of Mount Takasaki where humans feed monkeys in order to get some peace. Farmers could not get rid of these animals, so they decided to start feeding them regularly, making the zoo a temporary home for whole tribes of free mountain monkeys. Watch and you might see a mama monkey delousing her offspring, or baby monkeys testing their strength as they play. You can ride on the monorail service, dubbed the "kids' monkey rail," offering scenic views of the mountain. The place makes a cheap and fun trip for a whole family, and lies some 3 km (1.6 mi) from Beppu city, or 10 km (6 mi) from Oita. • From the sea immediately precipitous mountain terrain is walk footbridge across the road, on the seaward side and parking lot. Guide it in interesting, easy to understand story of monkey or flock rules and pecking order. Said to have a good Monkey child than young female monkey of the middle-aged woman and also had performances, takes the bait near the top of monkey when and when not. That is a wild monkey quite close, see.

  • Watch the wild monkeys seeking food so come down from the mountain, you come down. Originally A, B and C groups there existed, now B and c status now (all died, and without this down A group) the only Group B strongly c off too much this is not like. Food is often shown in photographs when you do, just around the corner. Fun, easy to understand instructions. Museum hotel is recommended to go ahead, a I food after watching Lance description chocolate I and on my way home from the hearing recommend you go the.

  • Was amazed at how many monkeys there were, and they walk right past you and interact with each other without a care for people walking around. There were literally hundreds of little monkey, the baby ...  more »

  • Big area with lots of monkeys roaming around freely. Please don't have long eye contacts with the monkeys, bring food or come too close. Stay for the feeding, quite entertaining. Other than that nothing much unless you like nature walk or going across the street to see the aquarium, which is separate establishment.
  • The IPO s will always be one of the highlights of my life. What an amazing experience!
  • I love this place. Its a very small zoo. Literally just a walk up the hills. But it cheap and you get to see the monkeys up close. Some of them would literally walk right pass you. And if you want to spend a little more time exploring there's an aquarium right across the street.
  • Good place for children to learn about primates in Oita. Entrance fee is 600 Yen but top up 100 Yen to take the monorail up to the hill. Large area to snap pictures and get up close to the critters. There are 3 gangs of macaques up there, totalling 1600 on that hill! Watch your belongings as they can get pretty snappish if you get too close. Children will enjoy this place but supervision is recommended. Legend says that if a macaque crosses your path between your legs, lady luck will smile on you.
  • You can see a lot of wild monkeys. you can feel like you are visiting not a zoo but their house.
