Wildlife Area Nature / Park
Meet the inhabitants of Noboribetsu Bear Park, an animal observation facility located at the summit of the mountain. Separated by age and sex, the 200 brown bears here have been raised in the facility, with the institution growing from a population of just eight in 1958. Head into the "cage for humans" to see the bears from their own perspective, and feed them salmon and meatballs, which you can buy on site. A museum reveals the history of brown bears on the island, their behavior in the wild, and their cultural importance to the indigenous population. Plan your visit to Noboribetsu Bear Park and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Noboribetsu tourist route planner.

  • Cute bears there. Asking for cookies with many kinds of cute tricks such as waving hands or put it's both hands together to beg for cookie. And they have nice skill of catching cookie. 熊超可愛的 會揮手、拜託求餅乾
  • Bears were crammed into a small concrete enclosure and looked very stressed. There are way too many bears there. Yes, you will see bears, but if you are empathetic, you will wish you hadn't.
  • Very interesting animal Park, unfortunately we missed some of the exhibits and events due to weather. Price is a little steep compared to most zoos/similar, but it includes a gondola ride into the mountains with a beautiful view of the canyon community of Noboribetsu.
  • The bears looked pitiful and were cramped into small places. Although feeding the bears seem like an interesting concept, the enclosures the bears are in (very small) and the way they knocked against the glass to ask for food was really sad. Overall, not a happy place to be and would not visit again.
  • This place is absolutely disgusting. They have crammed over 12 bears in each of the two small cages. It's not an enclosure, it's a cage. Bears are solitary animals and there is no room for the bears to have their own space. There is nothing natural about the cages. No natural features for the bears to play on. The only water soure is a hose spraying water from above the cage. The bears are very distressed and depressed. Walking around in circles, pacing, and fighting. I cannot believe they are allowed to operate. They aren't taking care of the animals or putting money into making their cages better. You can tell because the bars that keep the bears in their cages are all rusty. If I could speak Japanese not only would I be asking for a refund but I'd be talking to the council to ensure this place is shut down.
