  • One of the aims of the Okinawa trip was karate Museum. In thoughts looking for travel before starting karate, son of 2 years I'll show things about karate in "Karate originated in Okinawa Karate Museum has emerged. Is out there for the private museum is open ago us had become so ensure via telephone, and Director's okay with that. And "it is good experience, or eat? "And to experience the two father and son had to say so. Visit car rental by day and cheerfully welcomed by a Director. Come in and immediately wear change leadership begins! Finish the warm-up exercises and Director from the back brought nunchaku, nunchaku training has begun. That the Director's karate teacher, and teacher of the ancient martial arts, such as nunchaku, cudgel at the same time also. And struggled even unfamiliar nunchaku was taught carefully. This is self-defense. Karate is "専守防衛". That's from their attack is not been attacking the opponent, to attack here for the first time. Director, says "We strongly hold my wrist" so gripping with both hands and I undo very easily. Matter will be removed. Was taught how to do that. How to easily beat then was taught. "Hand turn ago" ko言 lay your hands I suddenly ran Pang, 1 rotation peaces. Touching little fingers just in pain, collapsing but did not. Be or Chiral wrist a little more, the colon will be rolling. Next to the son "really? "That was the face that really is (lol) now my son with me is the practice (crying). You could roll 75 kg of my 8-year-old child and is difficult and depends on. Last son now practicing karate form 'SAPI' a little bit and makes the experience end. Later showed the exhibits on the 2nd floor. We have a very valuable experience. Thank you very much.

  • Hokama Sensei provides an abundance of Okinawa Karate history within the mueseum and is a world-renowned karate master. If you are a true fan of Okinawa Karate, I would highly recommend a visit.
  • So much history. It was hard to take it all in. You are alowed to take pictures though. My wife and I were given the tour by Hokama Tetsuhro. What a treat, he was gracious and full of stories.
  • The Karate Museum, owned by Tetsuhiro Hokama Sensei, is an almost direct link to the golden age of Karate. Hokama Sensei has spent over 40 years compiling artefacts, documents, photographs, paintings, and lineage documenting the history of Okinawan Karate. Hokama Sensei himself was a student of Higa Sensei who trained with Chojun Miyagi. This is as close as the 21st century can get to the founder of Goju Ryu Karate, who is linked with the founder of Naha-Te, Kanryo Higashionna Sensei. He also learned his Kobudo directly from Matayoshi Sensei. Additionally he is a scholar of the martial arts and a celebrated calligrapher. This is a special place for training and history that is unique on the island.
  • The owner was really nice, we talked a lot about a lot of stuff. Okinawa history and how it changed over the years.
  • This museum was curated by a 10th Dan who still practices and teaches the Okinawan art of karate. His name is Tetsuhiro Hokama and, he will gladly show you his Dojo and give a guided tour of the facility while sharing some of the history of the martial arts.
