Historic Site
Part of the Shrines and Temples of Nikko World Heritage Site, Taiyuimbyo Shrine houses the mausoleum of Tokugawa Iemitsu, a 17th-century shogun famous for helping Japan resist European colonial influences. Administered by Rinno-ji Temple, the shrine is one of the Three Golden Temples of Japan, and features a mixture of Shinto and Buddhist influences. Gold and black with red framing, a number of exquisitely built and decorated rooms have designated as national treasures, with large ceiling paintings of dragons adding to their mystique. Statues of Deva kings guard the compound, with stone lamps placed around the entire complex. The mausoleum sits 30-40 minutes by foot from Tobu and Nikko stations. • It is easy to get lost or confused over which temple or shrine you are visiting as there's a number of them and they are pretty huge. I love the structures and designs of the temples.  more »
  • Magnificent. A must see in Nikko. Located away from the central Tosho-gu shrine, it is much quieter and not commercialized. I would recommend arriving early in the morning when it is not crowded, so y...  more »
  • Very beautiful and special, the only drawback is the cost to get in, which should not be there as the Park is free of charge and being an ancient site and a unesco world heritage site should be, in my opinion, completely free, to offer each person all her beauty and not decide whether to go to a temple or another based on your budget.

  • Every nice and worth to go!
  • 比起東照宮人少很多,建築很美麗,是紀念德川後代。 廟內有淡淡的燒香味,也有在販賣。
  • A beautiful plant. Graceful and quiet is available in the Centre between trees and forest. Even if it is only the smaller facility next to the Toshogu Shrine, she's still as beautiful.

  • At Nikko, really a well-organized site, magnificent statues and door with very interesting architectures. Views of a small private estate. Several signs on the history of the buildings. Temple at the top really beautiful, gets not to watch and the various sculptures and artistic pieces that adorn the gardens. Worth the trip to Nikko for 2 days, if you are in Tokyo.
