Nikko National Park, Nikko

(4.7/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
At Nikko National Park, you can explore one of the country's most renowned and scenic areas of natural beauty. Covering a huge 1,147.5 sq km (443 sq mi) the park incorporates ornate places of worship (deemed UNESCO World Heritage Sites), a serene lake, and dramatic waterfalls. Being a center for Shinto and Buddhist mountain worship, the park offers you the chance to observe some of Japan's most revered and impressive shrines, including the lavish Toshogu, and the mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first of the Tokugawa shogunate. The main pastime here is hiking, with trails of various difficulty navigating all over the park. Be sure to stand at the viewing point of the dramatic 80 m (264 ft) cascade of Kegon Waterfall, as it empties from the lake above. Put Nikko National Park at the forefront of your travel plans using our Nikko vacation route planner.
