  • We were with 2 children (11 and 8) there. When purchasing tickets was a Ninja us "mugged". It is true that it is almost all in Japanese, but it was also not fit if all in multiple languages would be presented. We found that it new gas was the right combination (but, we speak the language). We all spent the a very nice day. Definitely recommended.

  • Set in the 1600-1800s, this basically "Japanese middle-ages" village entertains and informs. The Ninja performance is so good I went back again to see it. The other performances are for varying ages a...  more »
  • You basically have a throwback moment to Edo Period when you go to this theme park. It's a bit far from the city and other attractions. This is definitely off the beaten track. You'll be able to roam ...  more »

  • A really great day out for families or Edo period buffs. We were pleasantly surprised by how much fun it is. The shows are really lively and impressive. You don't need to understand Japanese to enjoy most of the shows. The ninja show in particular is mostly action and little dialogue. You can't take photos in that particular show, but you can in others. It is a little pricey, but worth it for the experiences and uniqueness. You can print off a 10% discount from their website. They also have discounts for groups.
  • Interesting place. All the buildings and staff look fairly authentic to period they're emulating. It's a little like waking around in a video game. Probably not the most exciting theme park, but if you're into this stuff you'll be happy enough. Also lots of amazing snacks etc in the gift shops.
  • I was there toward the end of the day on a slow day, but everyone still did their best to make sure the guests had a good time. It wasn't a very big place, but it was worth the trip. The staff has a cc great sense of humor, too.
  • There is a free shuttle bus to/from this place from JR Nikko Station. Just 30min. Oh so if you are tourist you can get a discount by using the Tobu Nikko pass. It is still very expensive to go in 4,700 yen adult normal price. But it is a very pretty and fun Recreation of an Edo Village and all the people in it... loads to do, shows all day, take your time.
  • Was a great all day experience. Great for kids, because they can dress up as ninjas or wear kimonos. I do not have kids, but I believe there is a ninja school for the kids as well. There are plenty of shows and attractions to keep one entertained for many hours. However, the shows are in Japanese, so brush up before you go or you will not fully understand what is going on (like I did). I think we were here from 10am to 5pm, so I think overall a good value. Costume rentals are a bit steep in my opinion. Food options are limited and reasonable/slightly expensive. We went when there were still some cherry blossoms, so the scenery was beautiful!

Where to stay in Nikko

Rich in history, culture, and nature, you'll be pleased to find that Nikko also boasts a rich variety of accommodations. Competition may be pretty fierce at peak times, but make your reservation early and you'll be able to find somewhere to sleep that suits your style. Luxury hotels and boutiques with "onsen" (traditional Japanese spas) never stray too far from the river, while hostels and guesthouses tend to be tucked away on side streets, and up in the north of town. Mid-range and standard hotels lie close to the main train stations and by the main plazas.
