Niigata
The port city of Niigata has an association with tourism, but not really one to do with the city itself. Lying on the northwest coast of the island, Niigata stares out at Sado Island, a place rich in history, nature, and traditions. Most international visitors use Niigata as a stepping stone to reach Sado, with the city having a good transport system, linked up to other major cities, and ferries running to the island in the Sea of Japan. Those who stay a little longer will be doing so to explore the attractions along the banks of the river that runs through town, including some handicraft shops, local museums, and eateries. Make the most of your holiday in Niigata by finding out about its attractions and choosing what to see using our Japan road trip planning website.
