Sarusawa-ike, Nara

3.2
#3 of 37 in Nature in Nara Prefecture
Water Body Nature / Park
Enjoy a bit of serenity at Sarusawa-ike, an artificial lake dating back to the 8th century. Although legend has it that a court maid drowned herself here after falling in love with the emperor, today the area exudes tranquil ambiance. Feed turtles and ducks, admire elegant herons posing on the rocks, and look for the shrine peeking from the lush greenery. Relax on one of the many benches, and then enjoy a serene cup in the tea garden. In spring, take in the weightless wonder of cherry trees in blossom. If visiting in September, consider checking out the Uneme festival, complete with dragon boats, fans of autumn blooms, and lanterns floating on the water. • This feature is not specifically. Not clear that many turtles were swimming and water colors not impression is that like Riley in green felt.

  • Tortoise glass was ~. Traditionally hasn't changed at all, so I was relieved. I was like a foreigner.

  • A fairly large pond at the end of Sanjo Dori. It is a very photogenic area so a nice area to just walk around. They also have a small multi tiered pagoda near the lake side. Although not in Nara park there are still some deer who manage to get here.
  • This is a beautiful little lake with lots of dragonflies in summer. A nice area to sit down and relax and just in front of the Nara Park area.
  • Came here during early autumn unfortunately the leaves were still changing. Still a very charming serene pond.
  • Great for people-watching and taking pictures.
  • A little pond with nothing special. The water is not very clean!

Where to stay in Nara

The historic city of Nara has a welcome number of accommodations for an urban area of its importance and popularity. Close to the main train station stand the main high-rise hotels in the city, all towering over the commercial and modern district that greets train travelers on arrival. To the east, things get a little more luxurious, with hotels close to Nara Park particularly well-appointed and rich in additional facilities. Standard hotels stand in a cluster to the southeast of the old palace ruins, while a number of pleasant, no-frills guesthouses can be found in the residential suburbs.
