Sarusawa-ike, Nara

3.2
Enjoy a bit of serenity at Sarusawa-ike, an artificial lake dating back to the 8th century. Although legend has it that a court maid drowned herself here after falling in love with the emperor, today the area exudes tranquil ambiance. Feed turtles and ducks, admire elegant herons posing on the rocks, and look for the shrine peeking from the lush greenery. Relax on one of the many benches, and then enjoy a serene cup in the tea garden. In spring, take in the weightless wonder of cherry trees in blossom. If visiting in September, consider checking out the Uneme festival, complete with dragon boats, fans of autumn blooms, and lanterns floating on the water. Cute pond in the center of the city with a huge number of turtles and antique pagoda. This artificial pond created in 749, and the place where the Temple of Kofuku-ji Temple could hold rituals of "Hidzjoje". Hidzjoje-religious ceremony, during which show mercy to all living things and release caught living creatures at will. The circumference of the pond is only 360 meters, but along its shores planted beautiful willow. Although the pond and a small, five-storied pagoda of the Temple of reflection but Kofuku-ji Temple on the surface of the water (called ikjedzuki-Moon-Sarusawa pond of Sarusawa-IKE) is considered one of the best landscapes in this region. The pond is also famous for the turtles that bask in the Sun. In addition, there is a legend that in the Nara period (710-794 b.c.) to the Emperor's favor began to wane, Unjemje girl, prisluzhivavshej in the Court, and the drowning of grief in this pond. On the edge of the pond is the sanctuary of Unjemje-as a tribute to the deity Unjemje. Inspection across the pond no more than 10 minutes on the way to the temple

A fairly large pond at the end of Sanjo Dori. It is a very photogenic area so a nice area to just walk around. They also have a small multi tiered pagoda near the lake side. Although not in Nara park there are still some deer who manage to get here.

This is a beautiful little lake with lots of dragonflies in summer. A nice area to sit down and relax and just in front of the Nara Park area.

Came here during early autumn unfortunately the leaves were still changing. Still a very charming serene pond.

A little pond with nothing special. The water is not very clean!
