Sarusawa-ike, Nara

3.2
Enjoy a bit of serenity at Sarusawa-ike, an artificial lake dating back to the 8th century. Although legend has it that a court maid drowned herself here after falling in love with the emperor, today the area exudes tranquil ambiance. Feed turtles and ducks, admire elegant herons posing on the rocks, and look for the shrine peeking from the lush greenery. Relax on one of the many benches, and then enjoy a serene cup in the tea garden. In spring, take in the weightless wonder of cherry trees in blossom. If visiting in September, consider checking out the Uneme festival, complete with dragon boats, fans of autumn blooms, and lanterns floating on the water. • Landscape images of NARA's todaiji Temple and image of Asuka, Horyu-ji Temple, Kofuku-ji Temple from this Sarusawa pond are exceptional. Tightening the landscape behind Kofuku-ji Temple five-story pagoda, is the ancient capital of Japan really feel like me. Explore NARA Park, todaiji Temple, Kofuku-ji Temple come down's goal in a pond of Sarusawa?? I invite you to take care of Nara-machi neighborhood walk.

  • Went to the Sarusawa pond, down from Kofuku-ji Temple precincts. Think lighthouses NARA beautiful one pagoda over the pond is a small pond of around 360 m. So you can return to Kofuku-ji in about 10-15 minutes to go round the pond is recommended.

  • A fairly large pond at the end of Sanjo Dori. It is a very photogenic area so a nice area to just walk around. They also have a small multi tiered pagoda near the lake side. Although not in Nara park there are still some deer who manage to get here.
  • I like this pond. very beautiful and calm...
  • Just a small pond. Nothing new to see
  • This is a beautiful little lake with lots of dragonflies in summer. A nice area to sit down and relax and just in front of the Nara Park area.
  • Came here during early autumn unfortunately the leaves were still changing. Still a very charming serene pond.

Where to stay in Nara

The historic city of Nara has a welcome number of accommodations for an urban area of its importance and popularity. Close to the main train station stand the main high-rise hotels in the city, all towering over the commercial and modern district that greets train travelers on arrival. To the east, things get a little more luxurious, with hotels close to Nara Park particularly well-appointed and rich in additional facilities. Standard hotels stand in a cluster to the southeast of the old palace ruins, while a number of pleasant, no-frills guesthouses can be found in the residential suburbs.
