Sarusawa-ike, Nara
(2.6/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Enjoy a bit of serenity at Sarusawa-ike, an artificial lake dating back to the 8th century. Although legend has it that a court maid drowned herself here after falling in love with the emperor, today the area exudes tranquil ambiance. Feed turtles and ducks, admire elegant herons posing on the rocks, and look for the shrine peeking from the lush greenery. Relax on one of the many benches, and then enjoy a serene cup in the tea garden. In spring, take in the weightless wonder of cherry trees in blossom. If visiting in September, consider checking out the Uneme festival, complete with dragon boats, fans of autumn blooms, and lanterns floating on the water. Put Sarusawa-ike into our Nara tourist route planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Nara.

  • Around the pond of Kofuku-ji Temple five-story pagoda looks very well. It is beautiful especially reflected on the water tower. Many bench was established around the pond, a little break and well kept. Weather is nice and there are plenty of turtle pond turtle by everyone. However, the water is dirty.

  • Is a famous scenic area, but than it seemed been jogging and walking for local residents. I didn't linger but looks way to Kasuga Taisha Shrine.

  • Kofuku-ji Temple and then you stopped in the middle of the course through the city. It is famous as a scenic reflecting the Kofuku-ji Temple five-story pagoda in the surface of the water. Or jogging, as well as tourists, pretty some people strolling the local wind.
